Bruno J. Global, an Italian military officer born in Eastern Europe, served in the United Nations Navy before transferring to the United Nations Spacy. His early career saw him command the submarine *Marco Polo* during the Unification Wars under Brigadier General Takashi Hayase. Later, as captain of the *Oberth*-class space destroyer *Goddard*, he oversaw the first recorded use of reaction weaponry in ship-to-ship space combat, destroying the hijacked sister ship *Tsiolkovsky* near Mars Base.
He married Miho Global in March 2003, their relationship facilitated by the Hayase family. Having no children of their own, they formed a close bond with Takashi Hayase's daughter Misa, treating her as a surrogate daughter.
Rising to Brigadier General, Global became the inaugural captain of the SDF-1 *Macross*. At its launch ceremony on February 7, 2009, he declared his intent for peaceful first contact should aliens be encountered. An unexpected Zentradi attack triggered the ship's automated defenses, igniting Space War I. A miscalculated space fold jump then transported the *Macross* beyond Pluto, carrying a section of Macross City and its civilians.
Throughout the conflict, Global prioritized evasive maneuvers over direct combat, frequently relying on tactical counsel from First Lieutenant Misa Hayase. His command faced severe trials, including the catastrophic failure of the ship's omnidirectional barrier that destroyed an Ontario city, resulting in Earth temporarily exiling the *Macross*. He authorized the marriage between Zentradi defector Milia Fallyna and U.N. Spacy pilot Maximilian Jenius, a pivotal act fostering peace with the Zentradi.
His wife Miho perished during a Zentradi ground assault, though some accounts leave her fate unspecified. Following the devastation of Earth by the Boddole Zer Main Fleet and the war's end, Global transitioned to administrative duties. He conceived the Human Emigration Project to ensure humanity's survival through space colonization and later served as U.N. Representative. He retired as a full Admiral after commanding the U.N. Spacy.
Global displayed a reserved, tradition-oriented demeanor, often using his pipe for contemplation despite bridge smoking prohibitions. He balanced military pragmatism with genuine concern for the civilians aboard the *Macross*, though he initially complied with U.N. orders denying civilian disembarkation and overflying populated areas. His later actions demonstrated conviction in peaceful coexistence with former Zentradi enemies.
His legacy includes a namesake spaceport in *Macross Plus* and an SDFN-class ship designated *Global* in *Macross Frontier*. Jeffrey Wilder, captain of the *Macross Quarter* in *Frontier*, bears a physical resemblance to him.
