Description
Gaito Kurōzu is a sixth-grade student at Aibo Academy Elementary Division partnered with the Black Death Dragon, Abygale. He discovered Abygale critically injured in Darkness Dragon World after a battle with Azi Dahaka prior to Triple D. Bonding over a shared desire to become the strongest, they formed a buddy partnership.

Gaito exhibits a cold, antisocial demeanor, often pushing others away with indifference. He takes Buddyfighting with intense seriousness, enforcing a zero-tolerance stance against cheating or card mistreatment, driven by an obsession with winning he views as his destiny. This was reinforced by an undefeated streak after partnering with Abygale. His first loss, to Gao Mikado during World Buddy Cup qualifiers, triggers a severe emotional breakdown and self-punishment. Despite his harsh exterior, he shows kindness to children, frequently intervening against bullies to return stolen cards and protect younger students. He harbors a fear of cats (ailurophobia) and struggles socially, often avoiding crowds or hiding during overwhelming interactions.

Initially motivated to prove himself the world's strongest Buddyfighter, Gaito becomes fixated on obtaining the Dragon Force after learning it is an ultimate power tied to a "messenger of light's soul," believing it will cement his strength. He qualifies for the WBC Cup Japan Tournament, achieving his 100th victory there. The Dragon Force responds to him temporarily, but his closed heart and insistence on winning through force cause it to abandon him. Witnessing rivals Gao Mikado and Tasuku Ryuenji successfully wield the Dragon Force deepens his frustration, leading to emotional outbursts. After another loss, he realizes "sadness is born from a weak heart," allowing the Dragon Force to resonate with him genuinely. This marks a turning point: he apologizes to Abygale for past harshness and adopts a more grateful, collaborative outlook.

His rivalry with Kyoya Gaen and Azi Dahaka drives much of his arc. Kyoya targets Abygale for his connection to the "Ultimate Dragon Power," leading to intense battles where Gaito initially emerges victorious. Later, Kyoya's use of the artificial Dragon Drei power overwhelms Gaito and Tasuku in a two-on-one fight. Following this defeat, Gaito shifts focus to training Gao to counter Kyoya. He also clashes with Tasuku over strategies to stop Dragon Drei's creation, culminating in a Buddyfight to settle their differences. Gaito wins this match, and afterward, they collaborate to refine their Dragon Force abilities.

His character development concludes with a commitment to teamwork; he joins Gao's group in Los Angeles to support the final battle against Kyoya. Throughout Triple D, his evolution transitions from isolated ambition to acknowledging camaraderie, symbolized by his reconciled bond with Abygale and willingness to fight alongside former rivals.
