Shōta Aoi is a Japanese singer, actor, and voice actor born on August 11, 1987, in Fukui Prefecture. He began his entertainment career as a singer, debuting in 2006 under the stage name Showta with the single "Negaiboshi" on the King Records label. After releasing several singles and an album, he left his agency in 2009 to pursue his goal of becoming a voice actor, a dream he had held since childhood after being inspired by Akira Ishida's performance in Sailor Moon. He released music independently for a time under the pseudonym Noboru Ryugaki before signing with S Inc. for voice acting in 2011, officially adopting the name Shōta Aoi.

His voice acting debut came in 2011, but his breakthrough role arrived shortly after when he was cast as Ai Mikaze in the popular Uta no Prince-sama media franchise. This role, which also involved him singing for the character, successfully relaunched his music career and established him as a prominent figure in the industry. He is known for his soft, high-pitched, and androgynous singing and speaking voice, which has earned him nicknames such as "archangel".

Since his debut, Aoi has built an extensive portfolio of anime roles. He has been particularly active in series featuring idol or music themes, reflecting his own musical background. Some of his notable roles include Louis Kisaragi in the King of Prism series, Licht von Grannzreich in The Royal Tutor, Rui Minazuki in Tsukiuta. THE ANIMATION, Mio Kanzaki in Kono Oto Tomare!: Sounds of Life, and Geordo Stuart in My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!. He has also appeared in long-running franchises, such as Hideaki Tojo in Ace of Diamond, Yu-yu Kondō in Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress and will+Dress, Gaito Kurōzu in Future Card Buddyfight, and voiced the character Fish Eye in the 2021 film Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie, taking over the role from his childhood inspiration. His work spans a wide variety of other series, including Real Girl, Visual Prison, Joran: The Princess of Snow and Blood, and 2.43: Seiin High School Boys Volleyball Team.

Concurrent with his voice acting, Aoi has maintained a highly successful music career. He relaunched his singing under his current stage name in 2013 with the mini-album Blue Bird. His music is often produced by the group Elements Garden. He has released multiple singles and albums that have charted well, including his first studio album Unlimited, which reached number seven on the Oricon charts. His live performances are a significant part of his career; he held his first solo concert at the Nippon Budokan in 2016 and has since headlined numerous tours, including a 2019 tour that drew a total audience of 22,000.

In addition to animation, Aoi is an accomplished stage actor, having appeared in numerous musical theatre productions. This includes his acting debut as Saki Hanajima in a Fruits Basket stage musical in 2009 and later playing the lead role of Sakuya Shiomi in the Persona 3: The Weird Masquerade stage plays. He has also taken on live-action television roles, such as in the drama Real Fake. In October 2022, Aoi announced he had left his long-time agency S Inc. and began working as a freelance artist, continuing his multifaceted career in voice acting, music, and stage performance.
