TV-Series
Description
An extraterrestrial being dispatched from a distant planet, Wombat arrived on Earth with a mission to spread love and combat hatred. Its true name and homeworld are linguistically incomprehensible to humans. Observers nicknamed it "Wombat" due to its visual resemblance to the marsupial: light pink fur, a wide grey snout, small ears, and a distinctive pink heart-shaped marking on its abdomen. Initially resistant to the nickname, Wombat eventually embraced it and began using it self-referentially.
To operate covertly among humans, Wombat inhabits and controls the deceased body of Mr. Tawarayama, a homeroom teacher who perished in an accident. This possession slows decay while Wombat is present, though occasional forgetfulness leads to neglect of the host body. Wombat later developed the ability to heal and fully revive Mr. Tawarayama.
Wombat's core mission involves recruiting five high school boys into the Earth Defense Club by granting them transformative "Loveracelets." Activated by the phrase "Love Making!", these bracelets enable the boys to become Battle Lovers, warriors harnessing elemental powers (light, water, air, earth, fire) to purify entities corrupted by hatred, known as "Loveless." Wombat oversees their missions, frequently delivering exposition with passionate, verbose declarations about love, and often expresses frustration at the boys' lack of matching enthusiasm.
A significant revelation exposes Wombat's deeper motive: acting as an interstellar animal rights activist. The conflict against the Conquest Club and their monster creation is part of a larger effort to thwart Lord Hireashi, an unscrupulous reality show producer. Hireashi orchestrates battles between the groups for galactic entertainment under the show "CIDE" ("Can I Destroy the Earth?"). Wombat concealed this agenda from the Defense Club, causing tension upon its discovery.
Wombat exhibits a forgetful and occasionally absent-minded personality, contrasting with intense dedication to the mission. It dislikes physical cuddling, which causes fur loss, often initiated by Yumoto Hakone. Abilities include universal translation and creating advanced technology like the Loveracelets. After seasons of collaboration, Wombat departed the Defense Club via train during the OVA.
