Description
Wombat arrives on Earth from a distant planet, driven by a mission to fill the world with love and combat forces spreading hate. He appears as a light-pink-furred quadrupedal wombat with a wide grey snout, small ears, dot-like eyes, and a distinctive pink heart-shaped marking on his abdomen. To blend into human society, he inhabits and preserves the deceased body of Mr. Tawarayama, a teacher who died in an accident; his presence prevents decay, though he frequently forgets to maintain this disguise. Over time, his influence demonstrates the ability to gradually heal and revive the possessed individual.

He recruits five high school boys into the Earth Defense Club, granting them unremovable "Loveracelets." These bracelets enable their transformation into Battle Lovers through "Love Making," channeling nature-based elemental powers to purify monsters spreading discord. Wombat utilizes a universal translator to communicate, as his native language is untranslatable to humans—attempts to share his true name or home planet result only in incomprehensible noise. The name "Wombat" is a nickname given by the Battle Lovers due to his appearance, which he initially resists but eventually accepts, even referring to himself as such.

His personality balances passionate dedication to his mission with absentmindedness, often overlooking practical details like maintaining Mr. Tawarayama's body. He grows frustrated when the Battle Lovers lack enthusiasm for their duties and dislikes physical affection, particularly Yumoto's cuddling, as it causes his fur to shed. A significant revelation exposes him as an advocate for Earth's inhabitants, including humans whom he classifies as animals. He secretly opposes the cosmic reality show producer Lord Hireashi, who orchestrates conflicts between the Defense and Conquest Clubs for entertainment via the program "Can I Destroy the Earth?"—a motive withheld from the Battle Lovers, causing tension once discovered.

Across the series, Wombat's role evolves from a directive figure to a reluctant ally who shares deeper truths about their battles. His departure occurs via train in the OVA after the third-year Battle Lovers graduate and the primary antagonists are defeated, marking a bittersweet conclusion to his active involvement.
