Wombat is a pink-furred quadrupedal alien resembling an Earth wombat, hailing from a distant planet on a mission to protect Earth and spread love. To achieve this, it recruited five high school boys as Battle Lovers, granting them transformation bracelets called Loveracelets. These activate through "Love Making" to combat threats. Initially, Wombat concealed its true name and origins, accepting the nickname "Wombat" from the protagonists due to its physical similarity to the animal and the untranslatability of its real name. Over time, it grew accustomed to and adopted this name.
To blend into human society, Wombat possessed and reanimated the deceased body of Binan High School teacher Mr. Tawarayama, inhabiting it to prevent decay. Maintaining this possessed body required proximity, a detail Wombat frequently forgot due to its absent-minded nature. Its appearance features light pink fur, a gray snout, small ears, dot-like eyes, and a distinctive pink heart-shaped marking on its abdomen.
Personality-wise, Wombat is intensely focused on promoting love and peace, often expressing frustration when the Battle Lovers lack similar enthusiasm. This single-minded dedication contributes to its forgetfulness, particularly concerning Tawarayama's body. Wombat actively avoids physical affection, as cuddling causes its fur to fall out, leading to comical conflicts with the persistently affectionate Yumoto Hakone. A significant secret involved Wombat's role in a cosmic reality show orchestrated by Lord Hireashi. It concealed that the "loveless monsters" were part of a broadcast called "Can I Destroy the Earth?" (CIDE) designed for interstellar entertainment, causing tension upon revelation. Wombat also functions as an animal rights activist, extending its protective mission to Earth's fauna, including humans.
Its abilities include creating Loveracelets; wielding a universal translator for communication (its native language being unintelligible to humans); possessing and healing deceased bodies, as demonstrated by Tawarayama's eventual revival; and facilitating group transformations. During crises, Wombat could merge the Battle Lovers and the Conquest Club into "More Battle Lovers" for enhanced power.
Relationships with the Defense Club are largely transactional and strained, with members viewing Wombat as a nuisance except for the affection-seeking Yumoto. Despite this, Wombat remains committed to guiding the team. Its personal interests include world peace and spinach, with a birthday noted as November 30.
Across the series, Wombat evolved from a secretive manipulator to a more integrated, albeit still eccentric, ally. Its role expanded in later seasons, including *HAPPY KISS!*, involving interactions with new characters like the otter-like prince Karurusu. Wombat maintained its core mission of fostering love while adapting to Earth's complexities.
