Description
Komatsu-san, a middle-aged artisan in a secluded mountain town, runs a glassblowing workshop and gallery, crafting delicate glass pieces while balancing the demands of his trade. His days intertwine with Muco, a spirited Akita he raised from puppyhood, whose boundless energy disrupts his quiet routine—whether she’s dunking towels in water, commandeering the yard pond, or testing his patience with her antics. Though often baffled by her canine logic, he responds with a mix of stern corrections and quiet fondness, their four-year bond anchoring his solitude.

Reserved and methodical, Komatsu-san channels his focus into meticulous craftsmanship, his social hesitance most evident around Shinohara, a woman he quietly admires. Muco’s jealousy complicates their exchanges, her interruptions adding a layer of awkwardness to his already formal demeanor. His past as a high school baseball player, redirected into glassblowing after a career-ending injury, remains a silent undercurrent, shaped by his enduring friendship with Ushikou-san—the mentor who introduced him to the craft. Ushikou-san’s frequent visits sustain their camaraderie, punctuated by shared jokes, technical collaborations, and unspoken rivalry over Shinohara.

Komatsu-san’s workshop doubles as an inadvertent gathering spot, drawing in locals like Bouda, the bar owner and single father, and Dr. Mutou, the town vet whose playful advances leave him flustered. He navigates mentorship with Tamaki, Shinohara’s younger brother, guiding the boy through glassblowing fundamentals despite Tamaki’s wariness of Muco. When Renna, Bouda’s daughter, develops an interest in his art, he responds with his typical understated encouragement.

Though his external world remains largely unchanged, subtle shifts emerge: the steady rhythm of mentoring Tamaki, Ushikou-san’s loyal companionship, and the gradual softening of his routines to accommodate Muco’s irrepressible presence. His identity—rooted in resilience, quiet creativity, and the quiet pulse of mountain life—persists, unwavering.
