TV-Series
Description
Nana Nishigaki is a science teacher at Nanamori Middle School, the setting of the series. She has a distinctive appearance with grayish-white hair styled in a short cut, her long bangs covering her right eye, and red eyes that are often partially hidden. She almost always wears a white lab coat over her clothes, even outside of the laboratory, and rides a bicycle to school while wearing a full-face helmet despite the short distance of her commute.

Her personality is carefree, simple, cheerful, and mischievous. She maintains a calm and quirky demeanor, often appearing unfazed by the consequences of her actions. Nana has a deep-rooted fascination with science that began during her elementary school years. After a teacher demonstrated lighting a bulb with a battery circuit, Nana became curious and plugged a bulb directly into a wall socket to make it brighter. The bulb exploded in her hand, and this incident sparked her lifelong interest in explosions and scientific experiments. As an adult, she loves conducting dangerous experiments, which frequently result in explosions and the temporary closure of the science room. She is often late for school and is punished by the principal for these incidents, yet she remains trusted by the student body.

Her role in the story is that of a supporting character, appearing as a recurring adult figure who provides comic relief through her reckless lab work and her interactions with the student council, particularly with the student council member Rise Matsumoto, whom she sometimes uses as a test subject. Nana is also a close friend of fellow teacher Shihoko Azuma, and the two are shown to have a long-standing camaraderie, even working together at the same school. In the spin-off series Touzainanboku!, she becomes one of the main characters, focusing on the teachers' past.

In terms of development, Nana remains consistently enthusiastic about her scientific pursuits, with her background explaining the origin of her explosive hobbies. Her relationships with students are characterized by a blend of authority and approachability; despite her rule-breaking experiments, students trust her, indicating that she is seen as a friendly and reliable figure. Her notable abilities include her knowledge of chemistry and her skill in creating volatile experiments, though these often backfire. She also demonstrates a talent for bicycle riding and a habit of using protective gear, showing a cautious side that contrasts with her reckless experiments.

Overall, Nana Nishigaki is a cheerful, eccentric teacher whose passion for science and explosions makes her a memorable part of the series' ensemble, contributing to the lighthearted and humorous atmosphere of Nanamori Middle School.
