Description
The Obsidian Goddess, also called Kokuyō no Megami, is a mysterious entity dwelling within Musashi. Hunted by the Obsidian Eight for her power, she manifests long fair hair and sometimes a halo, freely shifting between an adult woman and a teenager.
Originally one being with the first Black Demon God, she betrayed and separated from him to find an ally capable of stopping him. During this separation, she encountered the near-death Shiro Inukai, a bushi captain whose band was ravaged by demons. She saved him by injecting a black heart into his body and granting him the first Kitetsu Sword, making him history's first bushi wielder. The black heart corrupted Shiro, stripping his human emotions and driving him to violent instability. Viewing this corruption as part of her sins, the Obsidian Goddess abandoned Shiro's band. She wandered alone for 100 years fighting Oni before meeting Seigen Toda and becoming his host, later taking refuge within Musashi.
During Musashi's Kitetsu Blade trial at Daito Mine, she interfered, causing his failure. When Musashi encountered Shiro again and was thrown into a pit, she blocked his escape, plunging him into magma. In a subconscious realm, she urged Musashi to stay with her forever and abandon his friends, exploiting his traumatic memories of losing his parents to break his spirit. She believed them safe within the magma until Nanao intervened with her Kitetsu Blade.
Facing mortal danger against Shiro and Nanao, the Obsidian Goddess halted time. She revealed Shiro sought her power and offered to grant Musashi her abilities to save him alone. Musashi refused, emphasizing reliance on comrades. This resolve made her recognize his capacity to unite others—a temperament she deemed essential for humanity to combat the Kishin. Temporarily possessing Musashi's body, she demonstrated her combat prowess by drawing blade energy from all nearby Kitetsu Blades, seizing Shiro's blade, and repelling Nanao's attacks. She explained her power over blade energy allows magnetism manipulation, disrupting others' use of Kitetsu Blades and creating disorienting vortices.
After these events, she returned dormant within Musashi, warning that active power use in the material world rapidly depletes her strength. She emphasized Musashi's role as her vessel and alluded to unfinished matters concerning Jisai. Before sleeping, she showed Musashi combat techniques by gathering blade energy to obliterate multiple hills.
The Obsidian Goddess introduced Kitetsu Swords to Hinamoto's bushi when the Kishin descended, providing smithing techniques using Kitetsu iron. As ruler of Kitetsu Swords, she wields all blade energy colors. By letting Musashi consume her blood, she unlocks his access to additional colors like yellow soul.
