He baked the anpan that formed Anpanman's head when a Star of Life fell into his oven during the baking process, granting life to the dough and marking Anpanman's origin. He sustains Anpanman by baking replacement heads whenever the original becomes damaged, soiled, or depleted from sharing with hungry individuals; this act restores Anpanman's strength. His bakery serves as both his workplace and a base where characters gather, providing emotional support and guidance. He collaborates closely with his bakery assistant, Batako-san, who handles tasks like mending the heroes' capes but sometimes forgets things. Cheese, a dog residing in the bakery, is also under his care. Tío Jam's role remains consistent as a mentor and provider, characterized by profound kindness and wisdom.
