Description
Doquín is the name given to the character Dokin-chan in the Spanish adaptation of the anime. She first appeared in a picture book titled "Anpanman to Dokin-chan" in 1975 before being incorporated into the television series. As a female germ alien from Baikin Planet, she serves as the primary partner and accomplice to the main antagonist, Baikinman, making her a secondary antagonist in the story.
In terms of appearance, Doquín is an orange-red being with a distinct white facial area that extends to her nose. She has green eyes, small red cheeks and nose, pink shoes, and white hands. A single antenna protrudes from her head, and she possesses a long tail, features that align with her identity as a germ from her home planet.
Her personality is defined by selfishness, greed, and a demanding nature. She frequently bosses Baikinman around, ordering him to retrieve food, items, or even people for her. Despite this, she sometimes displays underlying care for her partner, though she is often the first to flee when a confrontation with heroes like Anpanman begins to go badly. While usually antagonistic, she has occasionally shown a kinder side, though her primary motivations remain self-serving.
The most defining aspect of Doquín's character is her intense, unrequited romantic obsession with Shokupanman, a handsome bread-based hero. Her room is filled with posters and homemade dolls of him, and she frequently indulges in daydreams where he returns her affection. This obsession drives many of her schemes, such as attempting to use a magical bow to make him fall in love with her or staging accidents so she can nurse him back to health. Shokupanman is the only person she genuinely cares about not harming; she will actively scold Baikinman if his attacks come close to hitting her crush.
Doquín's key relationships shape her role in the series. Her dynamic with Baikinman is complex; while she is rude and demanding towards him, she is also his most consistent ally, and he shows unwavering loyalty to her despite her behavior. She has a younger sister named Kokinchan, who is jealous of her and enjoys annoying her by stealing her Shokupanman merchandise. Unlike Baikinman, Doquín does not hold a deep-seated grudge against the hero Anpanman and is generally neutral towards him unless participating in one of Baikinman's plots.
Historically, Doquín has possessed notable abilities and tools. She originally wielded a special staff with two ends; one end could enlarge an object, and the other could shrink it. This tool appeared in her early stories but was eventually phased out of use. For transportation, she pilots a long, pink unidentified flying object with yellow hands, which she occasionally uses to carry hostages or baskets of flowers. Her character has remained largely consistent since her introduction, continuing as a comedic and chaotic presence in the franchise.
