Description
Doquín, whose name is often rendered as Kurun, is the central guest character in the 2018 film Soreike! Anpanman Kagayake! Kurun to Inochi no Hoshi. Doquín first appears when a mysterious black star unexpectedly emerges from a garbage disposal wormhole called the Hyper Gomi Kīeru, which was invented by the series' antagonist, Baikinman. This black star transforms into a lively, energetic young child who has lost all memory of where they came from, including their own name. The name Doquín comes from the character’s own mumbled, sleepy utterance of ku-ru-run, which is then interpreted and adopted by Dokinchan and the others.

In terms of personality, Doquín is portrayed as a curious and cheerful child, full of energy and wonder. Upon arriving in the world of Anpanman, Doquín quickly adapts and enjoys playing with the other characters, blending into the daily life of the town. Beneath this happy exterior, however, lies a deep, subconscious yearning to understand their own purpose. Doquín is frequently troubled by a nagging sense of having forgotten something terribly important, leading to restless nights and a persistent, melancholic search for answers about what they are meant to do.

Doquín’s primary motivation is a search for identity and meaning. Throughout the story, the character grapples with the question of why they were born and what their purpose in life is, a theme that is central to the film. This inner conflict drives the plot forward, as Doquín’s presence is directly linked to a larger cosmic crisis. The arrival of Doquín coincides with a calamity where a shower of black stars falls upon the world, causing plants to wither and life to fade. Doquín is the key to this mystery, as it is eventually revealed that Doquín originates from the home of the Stars of Life, the very source of vitality for the entire universe.

Doquín’s role in the story is that of a mysterious catalyst and a symbolic figure of hope. Initially, Doquín is an amnesiac child under the care of Baikinman, who found the character in a trash can. Later, after getting lost, Doquín is taken in by Anpanman at Uncle Jam’s bakery. This transition allows Doquín to form key bonds with both the heroes and the villains. The relationship with Baikinman is particularly notable, as the villain gives Doquín a home and affection, yet also sees the black star’s power as a potential weapon. With Anpanman and his friends, Doquín finds kindness and a sense of belonging, but also the encouragement to confront their forgotten past. Doquín’s most significant development occurs at the climax of the film, when a powerful prayer from the townspeople and the dire peril of Anpanman cause Doquín to finally remember their true mission. With this awakening, Doquín comes to understand that their purpose is to protect the Stars of Life.

Doquín possesses the notable ability to interact with and purify the black stars. In one pivotal scene, a sleepwalking Doquín approaches a fallen black star and transforms it back into a shimmering, normal Star of Life, revealing their intrinsic connection to these celestial objects. At the film’s end, Doquín fully harnesses this power, converting all of the invading black stars into their original luminous form. This act restores life to the dying world and provides the energy for Anpanman to be reborn and defeat the final menace. Having fulfilled their purpose, Doquín chooses to remain in the home of the Stars of Life to continue safeguarding it, parting ways with the friends made on Earth.
