Description
Rui Yashio attends Tsukinomori Girls' Academy as a second-year student and serves as both violinist and composer for the band Morfonica. She shares classes with Mashiro and Touko. Beginning violin at a young age, Rui displayed significant talent until placing fifth in a childhood competition led her to conclude her efforts were meaningless without inherent talent, causing her to quit competitions entirely. This belief that hard work alone couldn't compensate for natural ability resulted in her abandoning the violin for a time. Her childhood included a friendship with Rinko; they participated in competitions together, shared a passion for music, and their families knew each other. Rui affectionately called Rinko "Rin-chan" and was deeply shocked when Rinko later ceased competing.
As a member of Tsukinomori's student council, Rui initially monitored Morfonica's practices in an official role before the other members convinced her to join as their violinist, marking her musical return. She later became student council president in her second year. Rui possesses a dry, logical personality and relentlessly pursues top results in all endeavors. She speaks politely yet bluntly, especially on subjects like talent or music, and adheres strictly to schedules, often struggling to comprehend unstructured activities such as socializing or taking detours. Her reserved demeanor frequently leads others to misinterpret her as angry even when she isn't, behavior originating from a desire to avoid emotional investment and potential disappointment following her childhood setback.
Her involvement with Morfonica sparks a gradual evolution. Though she initially viewed music as meaningless, meeting Mashiro and the band prompted her re-engagement. She practices violin rigorously—four to five hours on weekdays and ten hours on weekends—a routine even more intensive during her competition years. As president, she actively opposed the new principal's ban on non-academic activities, arguing it caused school-wide discord and confusion. She asserted her role demanded advocacy for student concerns, motivated by a desire to "protect the students and the school they love" from the principal's policies. Rui acknowledged this proactive stance stemmed from her bandmates' influence. She demonstrated loyalty defending Morfonica's practice space and later formed friendships with Kaoru and Masuki over shared interests in art and music appreciation.
Physically, Rui is the tallest member of Morfonica. She has dark brown hair extending just past her chin, thin brownish-red eyes, and bangs parted to the left with a section framing the center of her face down to her nose base. Her appearance conveys maturity, and she favors formal, feminine attire. A distinctive trait is her consistent use of last names with the honorific "-san" for everyone, including Marina. She dislikes rich or strongly flavored foods but enjoys zenzai soup with mochi.
