Description
Yōko Satō is a central character who serves as the partner, assistant, and driver to the legendary assassin known as The Fable. Operating under the alias of his younger sister, she is a laidback and charming woman who remains largely unfazed by the criminal activities that constantly surround her. Her outward demeanor is often jolly and exuberant, which stands in stark contrast to the stoic and emotionless nature of her partner, whom she affectionately calls big brother. Despite her cheerful disposition, she does not hesitate to loudly voice her disapproval and frustrations when he creates unnecessary trouble, frequently lashing out at him to clean up the messes he makes.

Her background is rooted in tragedy and a life forged in the underworld. When she was ten years old, her family home burned down, resulting in the death of both her parents. For reasons that remain unclear even to her, the mysterious figure known only as the Boss took her in following this tragedy. From a very young age, the Boss trained her in the various skills necessary to survive in a life of crime, and approximately one year before the main events of the story, she was assigned to be The Fable’s assistant and driver.

One of Yōko’s most notable abilities is her exceptional memory, a skill that makes her a highly effective navigator and logistical support. The Fable refers to her as his GPS chick, though she humorously corrects him by calling herself a perfect-memory, beautiful-woman car navigation system. She also possesses considerable combat and firearms training, making her far more capable than an average person or even a typical professional killer. However, her most famous and unique attribute is her legendary tolerance for alcohol. Known as the Drunk Queen, she can consume massive quantities of alcohol without issue and takes great pleasure in challenging others to drinking contests, often defeating them so thoroughly that they end up in the hospital. This hobby becomes a significant part of her life while in hiding, as she passes time in bars and finds amusement in breaking the cool facades of the men she encounters.

Within the story, Yōko’s primary role is to be a grounding presence for The Fable. She is an integral part of their duo, tasked with driving him securely to destinations and helping him navigate the complexities of their forced year of normal life in Osaka. While she is highly skilled, her development reveals certain limitations compared to her partner. She lacks his immense experience and emotional detachment, which sometimes leads her into dangerous situations. For instance, she has been defeated by less talented but more cunning opponents and struggles with the psychological barrier of killing another person, finding herself unable to pull the trigger in critical moments.

Key relationships define her personal journey. Her bond with Akira Satō, The Fable’s alias, is one of deep mutual care and concern, functioning much like a genuine sibling relationship despite their shared, violent past. There is no romantic tension between them, as his emotional distance and her pragmatic view of him keep their relationship strictly platonic. During their time in Osaka, she develops an unexpected and almost childlike admiration for a company president named Takada, projecting fatherly feelings onto him. Her personal motivations include a lighthearted goal to find an attractive boyfriend, though her attempts are consistently sabotaged by her own superhuman drinking ability, which inevitably humiliates any potential suitor. Despite her confidence and training, her arc shows a struggle between her emotions and her upbringing, as she grapples with impulses for revenge and the moral weight of her actions, revealing a more vulnerable and less experienced side beneath her tough exterior.
