Description
Aqua Hoshino is the central protagonist of the story, a young man whose existence is defined by a profound tragedy and a singular, all-consuming purpose. His true identity is that of Gorou Amemiya, a doctor in his thirties who was an ardent fan of the idol Ai Hoshino. After being murdered by a stalker on the night Ai was to give birth, Gorou was reincarnated as her son, Aqua, retaining all memories and knowledge from his past life. This unusual origin gives him a maturity far beyond his physical age from infancy, though he struggles with the disconnect between his adult mind and his adolescent body.

Aqua's personality is complex and undergoes a dramatic shift following the death of his mother. As a young child, he was observant and intelligent, but the trauma of witnessing Ai's murder at the age of four fundamentally reshaped him. He becomes cold, calculating, and emotionally distant, often appearing unfriendly or unapproachable. While he is capable of forming connections and cares deeply for those close to him, especially his twin sister Ruby, he frequently hides his true feelings and pain behind a mask of stoicism. His grief and guilt over being unable to save Ai transform into a deep-seated obsession, turning him into a manipulative individual who is willing to exploit the emotions of others to achieve his goal of vengeance. This drive often manifests as a ruthless pragmatism, where he treats relationships as tools for his investigation.

His primary motivation is revenge. Convinced that his biological father was the mastermind who leaked Ai's location to her killer, Aqua swears to find him and make him pay. He believes his father is someone within the entertainment industry, and thus Aqua dedicates his second life to infiltrating its ranks. He begins as a child actor, catching the attention of director Taishi Gotanda, and later works behind the scenes as Gotanda's assistant to learn the industry's inner workings and conduct his secret investigation. His quest for vengeance is the engine that drives most of his actions, overshadowing his ability to pursue genuine happiness for many years.

Key relationships shape and are shaped by Aqua's quest. His bond with his mother, Ai, is the most significant. In his past life, she was his idol, and in his new life, she is his mother, creating a complex mix of filial love, fan adoration, and profound guilt. He almost never calls her "mother" in his internal monologues, often referring to her as "Ai" or "that child," reflecting the complicated nature of their relationship. His twin sister, Ruby, is the other most important person in his life, being the reincarnation of Sarina Tendouji, a terminally ill former patient of Gorou's. He is obsessively protective of her, sometimes to the point of being called a "siscon," and his stated reason for living becomes to protect her, with his revenge being a secondary, twisted method of achieving that.

Other key figures in his life include Kana Arima, a childhood friend and fellow actor for whom he shows genuine care despite occasionally manipulating her feelings for his plans. His relationship with Akane Kurokawa is even more layered; what begins as a fabricated romantic partnership for the sake of his investigation evolves into genuine affection, though he ultimately severs ties with her to keep her safe from the dangers of his revenge.

Aqua possesses several notable abilities, many inherited from his past life as an adult. He has high intelligence and academic prowess, scoring a deviation value of over 70 on high school entrance exams, which far exceeded the average for the school he chose to attend with Ruby. He is a skilled investigator, capable of cracking phone passcodes, conducting DNA tests, and piecing together complex secrets. As an actor, his natural talent is described as average, but he compensates with quick thinking, sharp situational awareness, and excellent communication skills. He also gains proficiency in film editing and other behind-the-scenes work during his time as Gotanda's assistant.

Aqua's development is a slow, painful arc of a person consumed by his own trauma. After discovering that his true father, Hikaru Kamiki, is not only alive but a manipulative serial killer, Aqua descends further into darkness, his eyes permanently displaying the black star that signifies his vengeful resolve. His final plan involves creating a movie about Ai's life to trap his father. In a climax mirroring his past failures, Aqua sacrifices himself to protect Ruby, staging a murder-suicide that kills Hikaru while ensuring his sister's safety. In his final moments, he acknowledges that his true wish was not revenge, but to secure a future for Ruby, and he dies at peace.
