Description
Ten is a female red fox who appears in the later chapters of the Beastars manga. She is introduced as the elegant and formidable leader of the Inarigumi, a criminal syndicate based in the Black Market, having previously been associated with that location as well. At thirty-three years old, Ten possesses an athletic physique and typically wears a black qipao dress with an eyepatch over her left eye, presenting a polished and deliberate appearance.
Her personality is characterized by a strong sense of feminine dignity and a feminist perspective. She carries herself with an elegant and coquettish demeanor, particularly when interacting with males, and uses her femininity as an integral part of her identity and power. Ten holds a critical view of males driven by their predatory instincts, which she refers to as horrible creatures. She is shown to be proud of her group, the Inarigumi, and assertive in defending its reputation.
Ten becomes directly involved in the story during the Interspecies Relations arc, specifically on the Day of Love for Meat, when she leads her group in a territorial war at the Black Market. She confidently boasts about the Inarigumi having the strongest scent that month, mocking the perceived decline of the rival Shishigumi. Her composure is shaken when she meets Melon, the new hybrid leader of the Shishigumi, whose sudden violent display shocks her and the other criminal groups present.
Her most significant role comes when she confronts Legoshi, who is on his way to fight Melon. Ten ambushes him with her group, displaying notable combat abilities. She uses her agility to land on his shoulders and quickly deduces that he is a virgin. Her fighting style is unique, involving pulling his tail and pressing her high heel into his back. However, her shoes are the wrong size and fall off, leading to a bizarre turn where Legoshi picks them up, puts them back on her, and uses his pants to mimic a dress, dressing in women's clothing to her great dismay. Ten insists that in a skirt fight, showing underwear is prohibited as she cannot stand vulgarity. She explains that the reason for fighting in such restrictive and elegant clothing is simply because it looks stylish.
During their fight, interrupted by unexpected rain, Ten reveals a deeper personal motivation. She asks Legoshi if he knows why sun showers are called fox's weddings. She explains that males spread a rumor that a bride cursed during a sun shower would be turned into a fox, and she expresses her exhaustion with being treated as an evil, deceitful, and despicable creature. She confesses that she is not truly interested in the territorial war; her real goal is to change the opinion that males have about foxes. Following this confession, she and Legoshi part ways as he engages with Melon. After the conclusion of the territorial war, Ten and the Inarigumi are seen celebrating its end by raising their flag over the now-destroyed Black Market. Her name continues a pattern seen in the series, as she is the second female character to be named directly after a number.
