Description
Tomoe Koga is a first-year student at Minegahara High School, standing 152 cm tall with a petite build. She has fluffy, beige-blonde hair cut in a bob, often adorned with a distinctive T-shaped barrette on the left side. Originally from Fukuoka, she moved to Tokyo due to her father's job relocation, which prompted her to consciously change her appearance and suppress her regional dialect to fit in with her new environment. Her Fukuoka accent sometimes slips out when she is excited or embarrassed.

Her most defining characteristic is a strong and anxious desire for social acceptance, driven by a deep-seated fear of being disliked or ostracized. This need to fit in stems from her middle school days in Fukuoka, where she felt like a bumpkin who belonged to an unnoticed group. After moving, she began wearing makeup, styling her hair, and following fashion magazines to transform herself, which successfully allowed her to join a new circle of friends. This anxiety manifests in a constant need to monitor her social standing, often seen through her frequent phone use to keep up with group chats. Beneath this insecurity, she is fundamentally a cheerful, kind, and positive person, though her youthful age can make her seem overly dependent on others' opinions. She also has a peculiar sense of ethics, as shown when she demanded Sakuta kick her back after she mistakenly kicked him, believing this would make them even. She is sensitive about her body, particularly bothered by remarks about her height and comments regarding her rear.

Tomoe's motivations are largely centered on preserving her social status and avoiding conflict within her friend group. This is the catalyst for her involvement in the story when she is unable to give a clear answer to a classmate's confession, fearing that either accepting or rejecting him would lead to her being shunned. Her desire for a solution that causes no social fallout leads to her experiencing Adolescence Syndrome, which manifests as the ability to unconsciously create simulated futures, effectively trapping her in a time loop. Her primary motivation throughout this arc is to navigate her social dilemma without losing her place among her friends, a goal that becomes complicated as she develops genuine romantic feelings for Sakuta Azusagawa.

Tomoe serves as the central focus of the story's second major arc. Her role begins when she encounters Sakuta at a playground, mistaking him for a suspicious person and kicking him. After clearing up the misunderstanding, she later confides in him about her time loop predicament, and he becomes the only other person aware of the repeating days. To resolve her social crisis, she enlists Sakuta in a fake relationship, which provides a believable excuse to reject her suitor. This arrangement leads to a series of staged dates and interactions, during which their relationship deepens beyond its initial transactional nature. Through this experience, she learns to confront her feelings and eventually gains the confidence to prioritize her own happiness over peer validation.

Tomoe's most significant relationship is with Sakuta Azusagawa. Initially, she admires his willingness to publicly declare his love for Mai Sakurajima, viewing him as someone unconventional and trustworthy. Their relationship begins with an absurd mutual assault and evolves into a fake dating scheme, during which she comes to rely on him for emotional support. Sakuta's blunt honesty and willingness to stand up for her, including physically defending her from a bully, cause her to develop genuine romantic feelings for him. This unrequited love becomes the source of her internal conflict and the reason the time loop persists. After she confesses her feelings and is gently rejected, she ultimately accepts his offer of friendship, becoming one of his closest and most loyal friends. Her other relationships include her friend group led by Rena Kashiba, whose approval she desperately seeks, and later Nana Yoneyama, with whom she forms a more genuine friendship. She also works alongside Sakuta at the family restaurant Benny's.

Tomoe undergoes significant personal development throughout her arc. She begins as a girl paralyzed by the opinions of her peers, unable to make a simple decision for fear of social repercussions. Through her experiences in the simulated futures and her interactions with Sakuta, who lives by the philosophy of being satisfied if only one person accepts him, she learns that the constant pressure to conform is self-imposed and unsustainable. Her journey culminates in her being able to reject her suitor, accept the temporary loss of her friend group, and form new, healthier friendships based on her true self. She thanks Sakuta for helping her grow, indicating she has gained a stronger sense of self and is no longer as preoccupied with universal approval. In later timelines, she matures into a more confident individual, grows out her hair, and continues to be a supportive friend to Sakuta and his sister Kaede.

Tomoe's notable ability, stemming from her Adolescence Syndrome, is the unconscious power to create a simulated future. This ability, later explained as being like Laplace's demon, allows her to rewind time to the morning of a specific day, effectively resetting events to that point. This occurs when she is dissatisfied with how a day unfolds, and it continues to repeat until an outcome that satisfies her subconscious desires is achieved. In her case, the days between June 27 and July 18 repeat numerous times as she attempts to navigate her social problems and later, her unrequited love for Sakuta. The ability creates a perfect simulation of future events, and once she comes to terms with reality and her true feelings, the power recedes and time resets to the original starting point. Her experience with the syndrome also later enables her to perceive Sakuta across different time planes.
