TV-Series
Description
Sakurako Busujima is a first-year student at Oumi Women's University who becomes a coworker of the protagonist, Iori Kitahara, at a part-time job. She is a young woman with long fuchsia hair, which she typically ties into a side bun on the left side of her head, and matching fuchsia eyes with long eyelashes. Her clothing is usually fashionable, and at work she wears a standard waitress uniform. She is often seen in the company of her close friends, Yuki and Natsumi.
On the surface, Sakurako considers herself to be a hard worker when it comes to matters of love, and she always tries to appear trendy and amiable in front of men she has a crush on, such as the good-looking Kōhei Imamura and Naomi Otoya. However, she has significant difficulty being honest about her true feelings, to the point of not even confiding in her friends when she feels depressed after a romantic rejection. While she generally behaves politely towards strangers and acquaintances, her personality shifts to become sadistic and snarky toward people who annoy her, with Iori being her favorite target for bullying. She also has a noted dislike for her own last name, as the syllable "Busu" is a Japanese word meaning "ugly".
Sakurako's relationship with Iori Kitahara is a central and complex part of her role in the story. Their first encounter was bitter, beginning when Iori poured a glass of beer on her head after becoming frustrated with her mockery of Kōhei's hobbies. After this, they began working together, and their relationship turned into a series of mutual bullying, though Iori is most often on the receiving end, leading to a dynamic comparable to that of a master and slave. Despite this contentious start, the relationship deepens when she confesses her love to another man, Naomi Otoya, and is rejected. After Iori cheers her up, it is hinted that she begins to develop romantic feelings for him. Her affections become much more direct as the story progresses. She eventually kisses Iori in front of the other heroines, Chisa and Aina, during a trip to Okinawa. Later, she confesses her love to him, though she interrupts him before he can respond, declaring that she will continue to pursue him until he either says yes or she falls for someone else.
In a later turn of events, she asks Iori to be her boyfriend for exactly one minute, after which she immediately dumps him. This act was her way of rejecting him before he could reject her, thereby avoiding the pain of his response. However, even after this, she is shown to get annoyed whenever she hears about Iori being involved with other women, such as Chisa Kotegawa or Aina Yoshiwara, suggesting she has not entirely moved on from him. Her other key relationships include a brief and unsuccessful attempt to pursue Kōhei Imamura due to his good looks, as well as an initial unfriendly impression of Aina Yoshiwara.
Sakurako is a proactive character in the romantic subplots of the series, being the first of the heroines to kiss Iori and one of the most direct in expressing her interest. She does not possess any notable physical or technical abilities that play a significant role in the story, with her character development focusing instead on her emotional journey and her complicated, often combative, romantic pursuit of Iori.
