Description
Vargryfe is a character from the anime series Farming Life in Another World, who is expected to appear in its second season. He is the progenitor of all vampires, a being of immense age who has lived for over four thousand years, and yet he maintains a youthful appearance despite this extensive lifespan. As the head of the Korin religion, a faith centered on the veneration of the divine being known as God, Vargryfe holds a position of significant spiritual authority. His entire worldview and motivation are rooted in an event that occurred at the moment of his birth, when he came into the presence of God himself. God’s words to him, encouraging him to do his best despite his unusual constitution as a vampire, instilled in Vargryfe a profound and unwavering devotion that has shaped his immortal life.
In terms of personality, Vargryfe is generally very approachable and speaks with most people in a casual and familiar tone. He has a great love for anything he finds fun or interesting and throws himself into new experiences with enthusiasm. However, he is capable of shifting to a more polite and respectful manner of speaking when the situation calls for it, particularly when discussing religious matters or when interacting with the protagonist, Hiraku Machio. This connection with Hiraku is strengthened by the unique bond they share, as both have personally met and spoken with God. Vargryfe is also a regular and lively participant in the festivals held at the Village of the Great Tree, where he is known to be both an appreciative spectator and a spontaneous helper, eagerly joining in the preparations and activities.
Vargryfe’s long history includes a period he considers his most embarrassing black past, a time during his teenage years when he carried himself with an overly grandiose and pompous attitude. During this era, he went by the name Rumani Bran Transilva and was married to a woman named Versa. He is the grandfather of Rurushi Ru and Flora, and he maintains a close familial bond with them, with Rurushi Ru respectfully addressing him as her ancestor. His role in the story becomes more prominent after he learns of the birth of Rurushi Ru's child. In the spring of the eighth year, he makes a secret visit to the Village of the Great Tree, a thriving settlement led by Hiraku.
During this visit, he is discovered by the villagers while standing in deep, forgetful reverence before a wooden statue of God that Hiraku had carved. This encounter leads him to make an earnest request to Hiraku to carve a new, dedicated statue of God, so he might properly express his veneration. This request initiates a friendly and ongoing exchange between Vargryfe and the village, solidifying his role as a recurring and respected guest. As the progenitor of vampires, Vargryfe’s most notable ability is his extraordinary longevity, having survived and remained active for millennia. His entire bearing and presence are also deeply colored by his unbroken and fervent worship of God, which defines his actions and his identity as a religious leader.
