TV-Series
Description
Randan is a demon who serves as one of the Four Heavenly Kings and holds the position of their leader within the Gargard Demon Kingdom. His primary responsibility is overseeing internal affairs and the administration of the demon realm, and he also acts as the Governor of Shashaato. He is described as a key figure whose competence in governance is widely recognized, having risen from commoner status to his high rank through determination and exceptional skill.
Personality wise, Randan is characterized by a notable contradiction between his high station and his deeply cautious, even fearful, nature. He is highly efficient and capable as a statesman, but this is paired with an extreme level of prudence that can manifest as outright anxiety. This fear is primarily driven by his own imagination and delusions rather than concrete facts. His defining motivation is self-preservation. After learning that the protagonist, Hiraku Machio, single-handedly killed a rogue wyvern, an act requiring immense power, Randan became terrified for his own life. His fears only escalated upon realizing the true danger of Taiju Village and its unique residents, such as the Demon Spider Zabuton, who had fought the previous Demon King to a draw a century earlier. Consequently, his primary goal is to avoid any conflict with or retaliation from the village, leading him to take extreme defensive postures.
In the story, Randan’s role is largely defined by his reactions to the events surrounding Taiju Village. Upon hearing reports about the village from his subordinate Bizel, his fear overwhelms him to the point of immediately announcing his resignation and attempting to flee. He is constantly being pursued by Bizel, whose objective is to prevent Randan from quitting his post. During his first encounter with Hiraku Machio, Randan adopts an openly defensive and non-confrontational stance, famously stating that he offers no resistance and would be grateful for immediate protection should anything happen. This behavior, while ensuring his survival, leaves Hiraku bewildered, as it is considered highly uncharacteristic for the leader of the Four Heavenly Kings. There is no specific information available regarding notable abilities.
