Description
Tsubame is one of the three central protagonists in Thunder 3, forming a close-knit trio alongside his friends Pynotaro and Hiroshi. Collectively, the group is nicknamed the Small Three, a reference to their short stature which is typical of their original world, a chibi-like realm with a simplistic and cartoonish art style.

Hailing from this whimsical and mundane environment, Tsubame shares the everyday life of an ordinary middle school student. The three boys are neighbors, living on the same cul-de-sac, and share typical adolescent experiences, including a collective, unspoken crush on an older high school girl who plays guitar at a local station. This peaceful existence is disrupted when Pynotaro's younger sister, Futaba, is kidnapped by an alien race after crossing into a parallel, more realistic dimension. Driven by loyalty and a sense of duty, Tsubame joins his friends on a rescue mission to save her.

Upon arriving in this new, hyper-realistic world that is under a slow alien occupation, Tsubame and the Small Three discover a dramatic transformation in their own capabilities. The physics of their origin grants them extraordinary abilities in this harsher reality. They possess immense physical strength, can run at incredible speeds, and are highly resistant to damage, such as surviving massive falls or even being shot by alien weaponry without injury. Their powers are so exceptional that they are likened to a figure such as Superman, standing in stark contrast to the helplessness of the native human population. This newfound strength becomes their primary asset as they navigate the dangers of the occupied world.

Tsubame's role in the story is primarily defined by his membership in the Small Three. As a unit, they serve as the catalyst for the narrative, being the outsiders whose unique perspective and power challenge the stagnant status quo of the alien invasion. While the broader plot also follows human resistance fighters like Teiichi Segami, Tsubame and his friends represent the main viewpoint, their simple goal of rescuing Futaba driving them into conflict with the alien occupiers and, eventually, into alliance with the local resistance. His relationships are central to his identity, defined by the unwavering camaraderie between himself, Pynotaro, and Hiroshi, as well as their shared mission to protect Futaba.

Throughout the story, Tsubame develops alongside his companions as they are forced to mature beyond their ordinary, slice-of-life origins. Thrust from a world of simple concerns into a life-or-death struggle against an alien force, they must reconcile their new powers with the responsibility that comes with them. Their journey is one of adapting to a role as accidental heroes in a much larger and more politically complex conflict than they ever anticipated.
