Description
Oimo is a giant from the island of Elbaph and a loyal member of the Giant Warrior Pirates, having served under the captains Dorry and Brogy. His history with this crew stretches back over a century, during which the Giant Warrior Pirates were known for their immense power. However, the crew eventually disbanded when his captains began a duel to the death, a practice deeply rooted in the warrior traditions of Elbaph. The other giants, including Oimo, returned to their homeland to await the victor's return. Decades passed without word from either captain, and Oimo, along with his constant comrade Kashii, grew concerned for their leaders' safety. About fifty years before the main events of the story, the two giants set out to sea to find Dorry and Brogy.
Their voyage took a tragic turn when they were captured by the Marines. The World Government, seeking to exploit the giants' tremendous strength, deceived them. Oimo and Kashii were told that their beloved captains had been captured and would be imprisoned for a century. The government offered a deal: if the two giants would serve as the guardians of Enies Lobby's main gate for one hundred years, Dorry and Brogy would be freed. Motivated entirely by their unwavering loyalty and desire to save their captains, Oimo and Kashii accepted this false agreement. For the next fifty years, they faithfully stood guard at the judiciary island, believing they were working towards their captains' freedom.
Oimo has a thickset, powerful frame with a flat, pig-like nose and long, flowing orange hair, often sporting stubble on his chin. He wears distinctive Viking-inspired attire, including a light green shirt, suspenders, a large pink tunic, and a Roman-style helmet with pink frills. His appearance reflects his proud Elbaph heritage. His personality is defined by deep devotion to his comrades, particularly his captains and his partner Kashii. He takes the pride and customs of Elbaph extremely seriously, especially the sacred nature of a warrior's duel. Oimo is generally earnest, but he is also quick to anger when his friends are threatened or when his pride is mocked, sometimes causing him to act rashly. This was evident when he accidentally struck and knocked out Kashii in a fit of rage during the battle at Enies Lobby. He is also shown to be surprisingly emotional, weeping bitterly when he believed he had failed in his duty to free his captains.
During the assault on Enies Lobby by the Straw Hat Pirates and their allies, Oimo and Kashii initially fought against the intruders as ordered. They proved to be fearsome obstacles, easily overpowering many of the smaller fighters. However, after being defeated and tied up, Oimo was approached by the pirate Usopp. Hearing Oimo's sorrowful story of his servitude to the World Government, Usopp revealed the truth: Dorry and Brogy were not imprisoned but were still dueling on the island of Little Garden. This revelation ignited a fierce rage in Oimo and Kashii. Feeling deeply betrayed by the World Government's deception, they immediately defected and allied themselves with the Straw Hats, the Galley-La Company, and the Franky Family. They rampaged through Enies Lobby, attacking government forces and helping their new allies reach the courthouse, solidifying their turn from antagonists to invaluable allies.
His most significant relationship is with his fellow giant Kashii. The two are almost never apart, having worked and fought together for over a century. They coordinate seamlessly in battle and share a deep, unspoken bond. Oimo also holds immense respect for his former captains, Dorry and Brogy. His entire motivation for working for the World Government was to secure their release, demonstrating his profound sense of duty. After learning the truth, he also forms a bond with Usopp, who he trusts as the one who exposed the government's lie and proved his courage as a warrior of Elbaph.
As a giant from the warrior nation of Elbaph, Oimo possesses immense physical strength, far surpassing that of any ordinary human. His durability is equally remarkable; he has survived direct cannon fire from Marine battleships and being struck by the Rocketman, a high-speed sea train, regaining consciousness quickly after each blow. He wields a gargantuan wooden club studded with metal as his primary weapon, using it to deliver devastating strikes. He also has a signature attack called the Oimo Press, where he leaps into the air and crushes his opponents under his immense weight. Along with Kashii, he demonstrated significant seafaring skill by navigating the treacherous waters of the New World. In combat, Oimo is a powerhouse, capable of defeating multiple enemies with a single blow. His role in the story has evolved from a deceived guardian to a proud warrior fighting for the truth, and later, after the events at Enies Lobby, he is seen helping to rebuild Water 7 before finally setting sail to return home to Elbaph, having decided to let his captains continue their duel in peace. Oimo has a grandson named Olav who attends the Walrus School on Elbaph.
