Description
Hinako Konohana is the female protagonist of the light novel series. She is a sixteen-year-old high school student who attends Kiou Academy, an exclusive school for the children of Japan's most influential and wealthy families. As the daughter of the Konohana Group, a massive conglomerate with vast assets, she is expected to embody the ideals of a perfect young lady.

To the outside world, including her peers and the public, Hinako presents a flawless persona. She is brilliant, charming, graceful, and endlessly kind, a figure who is admired and respected by everyone around her. This impeccable behavior is a facade, however, one that is demanded by her family and specifically enforced by her father, Konohana Kagen, who insists that the heiress to such a powerful family must act in a certain way. In truth, the real Hinako is the complete opposite of this public image. In private, she is lazy, lethargic, and possesses almost no basic life skills, finding even simple tasks like changing her own clothes or feeding herself to be a bother. She is prone to sleeping whenever she is tired and has a particular fondness for simple, common sweets and ice cream, which can quickly improve her mood.

The enormous pressure of maintaining this perfect act twenty-four hours a day, three hundred and sixty-five days a year, took a severe toll on her health. The constant stress and pressure caused her to frequently collapse with high fevers. In response, her father reluctantly allowed her to drop the act during her private time at home, confining the required performance to school and other important public occasions. Even with this reprieve, Hinako remained largely helpless and a difficult charge for her personal caretakers. Her demanding nature and complete lack of independence were so extreme that her previous attendants quit due to immense stress, with one developing a stomach ulcer. Despite her helplessness in daily life, Hinako is genuinely brilliant in other areas. She consistently ranks at the top of her class in exams and has been recognized by her father as possessing a genius-level talent for management, an ability that even he admits he may not have reached.

Hinako's life and story begin to change when she meets Itsuki Tomonari. The two are kidnapped together, and during this incident, she quickly becomes attached to him. Afterward, she appoints Itsuki, an ordinary high school boy from a poor background, as her new personal caretaker. Her motivation for doing so is a developing personal affection; she finds that she likes him and wants him by her side. She soon begins to fawn on him with all her might, and her famous line, "Now… if Itsuki isn’t around, I would hate it," encapsulates her growing dependence and romantic feelings. Through her relationship with Itsuki, who accepts and cares for both her public persona and her lazy true self, Hinako begins to find some relief. Having him around allows her to relax and show her authentic self more often, even at school, providing a significant reduction in the stress that once plagued her.

Several key relationships define her world. Her father is a source of immense pressure, but he also demonstrates a complex, dual-sided care for her by allowing her to drop the act at home and, as the story progresses, shows an understanding of Itsuki's positive influence on her. Her older brother, Takuma, is a rival of sorts, and Hinako is highly wary of his cold and ambitious business tactics, especially when he shows interest in Itsuki's talents. Shizune Tsurumi is her personal maid, a person who has cared for her the longest and knows her true nature better than anyone, often acting with quiet frustration or strict guidance. At school, she has a rival named Mirei Tennoji, who initially sees her as a competitor but eventually becomes a close friend. She is also wary of other girls who get close to Itsuki, such as his childhood friend Rara Hirano and another classmate, Narika Miyakojima, showing a possessive and jealous streak. Through her relationships and the dedicated care she receives from Itsuki, Hinako slowly develops, moving from a girl crushed by the weight of expectation to one who can experience genuine comfort and love, transcending the simple master-servant dynamic that first brought them together.
