TV-Series
Description
Chelsea, whose full name is Chelsea Childe, is a prodigious geographer who joins the Kingdom of Science during the events of Dr. Stone: Science Future. She is an American citizen who was petrified at the age of eighteen while attending an international scientific conference, the same gathering attended by Dr. Xeno Houston Wingfield. The conference was focused on the mysterious phenomenon of birds turning to stone, a subject Chelsea was invited to discuss due to her expertise. She was born on December 20, 2000, making her a Sagittarius, and stands at 148 centimeters tall with a slim build.
Chelsea possesses a remarkably extroverted and energetic personality. From a young age, she was known as an unusual child who memorized world maps while other children played with dolls, and she has since grown into a young woman described as having the entire planet stored within her mind. She is incredibly direct and spontaneous, often blurting out her thoughts without concern for the context of a situation, a trait that has earned her the nickname of the icebreaker. One of her most distinctive quirks is her frequent use of the word pervert or perverted as an exclamation of delight or amazement, using it to describe things she finds exciting or impressively clever. Despite her bluntness, she lacks any malicious intent, and her cheerful, innocent nature makes it difficult for others to take offense at her words. She is also known for forming a circle with her thumb and index finger when analyzing terrain and has a habit of pointing at people while speaking, which she acknowledges as rude and tries to correct.
Her motivation for joining Senku’s team is rooted in a combination of gratitude and a thirst for adventure. When Senku and Kaseki craft a pair of glasses to correct her severe nearsightedness, she feels a deep sense of indebtedness. More importantly, she is drawn to the fun and exciting spirit of the Kingdom of Science, ultimately deciding to align herself with them rather than with Xeno’s American faction, which she perceives as less enjoyable. Her primary role in the story is as a navigator and strategist. After being revived, she provides invaluable assistance by charting a course through the treacherous terrain of the Amazon rainforest, allowing the team to avoid a lengthy and dangerous sea route while being pursued by Stanley Snyder.
Chelsea’s background is that of a true genius. She skipped grades to enter university at the age of fourteen, majoring in geography. By the age of sixteen, her uniquely written yet highly insightful papers had captured the attention of the global scientific community. Her key relationships within the group are varied. She shares a professional and friendly rapport with Senku Ishigami and Xeno, both of whom she met before the petrification event. She views Chrome as a kindred spirit in terms of their shared passion for the natural world, though Chrome sees her as a rival in the field of geography, a notion she remains blissfully unaware of. She also forms a notable bond with the character SAI, with whom she interacts frequently in later stories.
Throughout her time in the series, Chelsea demonstrates notable development. While she initially appears solely as an eccentric genius, she reveals a more sensitive and emotional side. When Senku and Ryusui arrange for her and Luna to leave the main group during a dangerous military assault, she immediately understands that they are being sent away for their safety. In this moment, she sheds rare tears, showcasing an unexpected depth of feeling and loyalty. Her abilities are exceptional and specific to her field. She can draw incredibly detailed maps of any location from memory, complete with contour lines, and can accurately predict geographical changes that have occurred over the 3,700 years since the petrification event, effectively making her a living, breathing GPS for the Kingdom of Science.
