Movie
Description
Hotaru is the young daughter of Azusa, the owner of a bar known as Pub Azusa. Her name means firefly in Japanese. She is a short girl with a small frame, characterized by her waist-length light-colored hair which she typically ties into a pair of ponytails, and dark-colored eyes. A notable aspect of her appearance is her striking resemblance to Nagisa Shiota, a student from the main series, a similarity that has even been acknowledged by the character Korosensei.

In terms of personality, Hotaru is portrayed as a kind and friendly individual, qualities that are admired by the regular patrons of her mother's pub. Despite her generally cheerful disposition, she possesses a deep well of courage and is fiercely protective of her loved ones. This aspect of her character becomes evident when she does not hesitate to risk her own safety for the sake of her mother.

Hotaru’s primary motivation is the well-being of her mother, Azusa, who is the most important person in her world. After her mother’s eyesight began to deteriorate, Hotaru took on the responsibility of helping out as a waitress at the family’s pub. The central conflict of her story arises when a loan shark named Sengoku comes to threaten Azusa. In a desperate act of bravery, Hotaru grabs a kitchen knife, declaring her intent to protect her mother at all costs. Korosensei acknowledges her courage but advises her that observation is the wiser course of action. Following the intervention of the main characters, who successfully rescue her mother, Hotaru shares an emotional and tearful reunion with Azusa.

Her key relationships are centered on her family. Her bond with her mother, Azusa, is one of strong mutual love and devotion. It is later revealed that Azusa is suffering from a severe illness, and Hotaru is initially unaware of the full extent of her mother’s health struggles. The resolution of their arc involves Korosensei using his abilities to resolve the underlying medical issue, allowing Hotaru and her mother to share a happy future together with the regulars of their pub.

While Hotaru does not possess any supernatural or assassination-based abilities, her notable trait is her unwavering courage and willingness to stand up against overwhelming threats to protect her family. Her role in the story highlights the themes of familial love and protection from the perspective of a civilian child, rather than that of a trained assassin.
