Description
In the context of the Liar Game, Hitomi Miyahara is a persona used by the character Yuuji Fukunaga. Fukunaga is a trans woman who first appears during Round II of the tournament, adopting the alias of her friend Hitomi Miyahara, who was originally registered as player number three. Under this guise, she enters the game as a substitute participant.
Fukunaga, as Hitomi Miyahara, is portrayed as a sly, calculating, and highly skilled manipulator. Her personality is marked by a sharp temper and a strong desire for money, which often serves as her primary motivation and a notable weakness. Despite these flaws, she possesses significant physical prowess, holding a fifth-degree black belt in martial arts.
Within the story, she initially acts as a formidable obstacle for the protagonists, Nao Kanzaki and Shinichi Akiyama, during Round II and the subsequent Revival Round. While she has never been able to outwit Akiyama, she proves to be a challenging adversary. Her role evolves as the tournament progresses; during Round III, she chooses to cooperate effectively with Nao and Akiyama. Even after finishing a round debt-free, she decides to continue her participation in the Liar Game.
Her key relationships are complex. She seems fond of Nao Kanzaki in her own way, though she does not consider her to be a competent player. Later in the manga, Nao comes to the conclusion that Fukunaga has a romantic crush on Akiyama. Conversely, Fukunaga harbors a deep-seated rivalry with a primary antagonist, Yokoya. It is revealed that she attempted to employ a strategy similar to Nao's, aiming to save everyone in a round, but suffered a crushing defeat at Yokoya's hands.
Fukunaga undergoes notable development throughout the series. Initially an adversary driven by greed, she becomes a cooperative ally. By the end of the manga, her opinion of Nao changes dramatically, and she comes to think very highly of her. She is ultimately eliminated in the final revival round, preventing her from taking part in the final stage of the Liar Game. In terms of abilities, beyond her strategic mind and talent for deception, she is also a skilled physical fighter and adept at disguise, once wearing a long blonde wig to conceal her identity during a revival round.
