Description
Sayaka Murano is a main character from the multimedia project Link! Like! Love Live! and a second-year student at Hasunosora Girls' High School. She is a member of the school's idol club and belongs to a unit named DOLLCHESTRA, where her designated image color is ice blue.
The primary motivation for Sayaka attending Hasunosora stems from her background as a competitive figure skater. After being told that her skating lacked emotional expression, she found herself unable to progress and transferred to the school to find a way to grow beyond this limitation. Her initial interest in the School Idol Club was sparked after watching a performance by her upperclassman, Tsuzuri Yugiri, leading her to accept an invitation to join immediately. Sayaka's dedication to figure skating is deeply connected to her older sister, Tsukasa, a former exceptional skater whose career was ended by an injury. Sayaka took up the sport for her sister's sake and remains determined to continue skating for her.
In terms of personality, Sayaka is characterized as an awkward, serious, and diligent individual who applies intense effort to everything she does. She is very formal in her speech and mannerisms, which often makes her seem stiff and reserved compared to her more outgoing peers. While she has good grades, she struggles with her personal life and social interactions, largely because of her overly serious nature. She is incapable of ignoring someone in need of help, a trait that can lead her to offer assistance in situations where it might not be wanted. Despite her initial lack of desire to make friends upon entering Hasunosora, her inherent sense of responsibility is a key part of her character.
Her most significant relationship is with Tsuzuri Yugiri, her partner in DOLLCHESTRA. Sayaka naturally takes on a caretaker role, waking Tsuzuri up in the mornings, preparing her lunches, and guiding her to practice. She does not view this responsibility as a burden; instead, it has brought her new joy, such as discovering a passion for cooking through making Tsuzuri's bento boxes. Sayaka deeply respects Tsuzuri's innate talent and can speak about her performances at great length, though she also envies this natural ability. This dynamic, where Sayaka's grounded and practical nature balances Tsuzuri's more ethereal and detached personality, is the foundation of their successful partnership.
Sayaka's role in the story evolves as she navigates the demands of being both a competitive figure skater and a school idol. Unlike someone like Kaho Hinoshita, who throws herself into performing despite being a novice, Sayaka approaches her idol training with the same careful planning and nervous dedication she applies to her skating. Her development often involves learning to balance her rigid, perfectionist tendencies with the more expressive and collaborative nature of being an idol. As she progresses through her years at the school, her role expands. By her third year, she becomes the co-president of the idol club alongside Kaho Hinoshita, taking on greater leadership responsibilities and acting as a mentor to newer members like Kosuzu. Her appearance also matures; in her third year, she no longer styles her dark blue hair in her characteristic low twintails with light blue ribbons, instead letting it down and adorning it with red and green ribbons.
Notable abilities outside of her idol activities include her exceptional skill as a figure skater and her talent for cooking, particularly making boxed lunches. Her hobby and special skill are closely linked: she enjoys making and researching boxed lunches, from store-bought varieties to station bentos, and her special skill is the ability to plan things perfectly. Her proficiency in the kitchen is such that she was able to replicate the flavors of a high-class ryokan inn to help in their kitchen. She prefers making lunches for others rather than cooking for herself, as she finds more passion and drive when preparing food for someone else's benefit. Her favorite phrase reflects her determined nature, translating to "A strong will brings success".
