Description
Michiru Hazama is a former Under-20 world champion in Vanguard, having set multiple records as the youngest fighter to achieve that title. In the Cardfight!! Vanguard Divinez Deluxe-hen, he returns to competition after waking from a coma, having qualified for the Deluxe tournament through the American preliminaries. Typically absent-minded in daily life, Michiru becomes remarkably perceptive and focused when engaged in a cardfight. His personality is defined by this contrast between a relaxed demeanor and an intense, analytical sharpness during battles. His primary motivation is to push himself even further in Vanguard and win the Deluxe tournament, seeing it as a way to reach a higher level of play.
Since recovering from his coma, Michiru has developed an unusual ability: he can now see what he describes as the souls of his cards. This ability is speculated by others, such as Taizo, to be a form of synesthesia. However, this power comes at a cost, as Michiru also experiences harsh ringing noises in his head that cause him physical distress, a symptom he shares with Urara Haneyama. His role in the Deluxe arc is that of a key competitor and a returning legend whose presence raises the tournament's stakes. Relationship-wise, he is idolized by Raika Koshiba, and he has a history with other fighters from previous arcs. Throughout the series, Michiru's development involves learning to manage his new perception while striving to refine his skills as a fighter. His notable abilities include his synesthesia-like perception of card souls, his deep tactical knowledge of the game, and his capacity to remain calm under pressure despite the physical toll his condition exacts.
