Description
In the film Kitarō Tanjō: Gegege no Nazo Shinsei-ban, Kitarō's Mother is a significant but largely unseen figure whose fate drives the central conflict. She is a member of the Ghost Tribe, the same ancient race as her husband, who would later become known as Medama-Oyaji. The primary motivation for her husband's journey to the remote village of Nagura is to search for her after she goes missing, with clues leading him to that location.

Her role in the story is that of a catalyst. Her disappearance is the mystery that brings Kitarō's father into the web of the powerful and corrupt Ryūga family. It is eventually revealed that she has been captured by the Ryūga family to serve a horrific purpose. The family has been harvesting the blood of Ghost Tribe members, including her, to create a powerful and sinister blood serum known as M. Her imprisonment and her role as a source for this serum represent the exploitation and persecution faced by the Ghost Tribe at the hands of humans.

Key relationships are central to her character. Her relationship with her husband is the emotional heart of the story; his unwavering love for her is what fuels his perilous quest. She is also the mother of the future Kitarō, as she is revealed to be pregnant during the events of the film. Her unborn child becomes a symbol of hope. In the film's climax, even in her weakened state, the cries of her infant son resonate with the ancestral spirits of the Ghost Tribe, whose power helps to defeat the primary antagonist. Her development is not shown directly, as she remains a captive for most of the narrative, but her tragic situation underscores the film's themes of familial bonds and survival against oppression.

While she is a Ghost Tribe member, her individual abilities are not showcased. Her significance comes from her lineage and her role as a vessel for the next generation. The film primarily focuses on her husband's abilities and the collective power of the Ghost Tribe, which ultimately manifests through her child. Her presence is felt throughout the film as the lost loved one, and her rescue is the final, bittersweet goal of the protagonist.
