Description
Mark Whiting teaches history at Hitsue Middle School and later at Hitsue High School, where he also advises the Vanguard Club. He passionately integrates his knowledge of Sengoku-era history into lessons, using historical trading cards as visual aids and emphasizing student participation. This teaching style significantly influences Aichi Sendou's early engagement with competitive cardfighting.

Outside school, he operates as "Ninja Master M" (or "Ninja Master"), adopting eccentric ninja-themed attire and behavior. Approximately ten years before the main series, during the Shinemon Arc, he assists Shinemon Nitta in defending Card Capital from a corporate takeover using this persona, while maintaining their friendship. His disguise features a self-made helmet covering only his hair and eyes, leaving his beard visible—a flaw some characters recognize, though Shinemon accepts it. As Ninja Master, he uses gratuitous English phrases and ends sentences with "-de gozaru".

His cardfighting expertise centers on the Nubatama clan, utilizing a deck focused on hand destruction and specialized "Evil Decoy Tokens" resembling ninja logs. These tokens lack offensive power but can intercept attacks from the back row. His primary unit is Evil Stealth Dragon, Akatsuki Hanzo. Despite his ninja claims, historical inaccuracies in his self-designed costume—notably the samurai-like helmet—lead other characters to sometimes call him "Samurai Master".

Personality traits include enthusiasm for Japanese history, occasional malapropisms, and fandom behavior like admiring Hitomi Kouzoji. His ninja persona involves theatrical combat commentary during matches. During the Reverse incident at Hitsue Middle School, he temporarily becomes "Ninja Master Neo" to protect students, narrowly defeating a reversed opponent through a strategic play involving a critical Heal Trigger and Break Ride maneuver.

Later appearances include participating in Card Capital's shop tournament alongside other recurring characters, maintaining both his teaching role and cardfighting activities without significant development beyond these established roles.
