Description
Master Duta is a Tholothian Jedi Master who serves on the Jedi Council during the era depicted in the Star Wars: Visions Volume 2 short film Journey to the Dark Head. As a member of the Council, Duta takes part in a meeting where the group is approached by Ara, a pilot from the planet Dolgarak who possesses the unique ability to see prophetic images on rocks when it rains. Ara’s visions lead the Council to dispatch a mission to destroy the dangerous Dark Head, a mysterious object that threatens the galaxy. Duta, along with fellow Masters Leesagum and Moru, oversees this mission and assigns the young Jedi Toul to protect Ara during the journey.
In terms of personality, Duta is portrayed as composed, thoughtful, and authoritative, reflecting the wisdom and responsibility expected of a senior Jedi leader. Their calm demeanor during the Council deliberation suggests a measured approach to decision-making, balancing the urgency of the threat with the need for careful planning. Duta’s motivations align with the Jedi Order’s core principles: maintaining peace, protecting the innocent, and preventing the Dark Head from causing catastrophe. The character does not undergo significant development over the course of the short film, as their role is largely that of a guiding authority figure rather than a protagonist. However, their willingness to trust in Ara’s vision and deploy Jedi resources demonstrates a pragmatic and decisive nature.
Key relationships include fellow Council members Leesagum and Moru, who collaborate in evaluating the situation. Duta also interacts indirectly with Ara and Toul, providing the strategic approval that sets the story in motion. As a Tholothian, Duta’s appearance is marked by the distinctive head tendrils characteristic of that species, though their specific attire and lightsaber design are not emphasized in the episode. Their abilities include standard Jedi Force powers and likely combat proficiency, though the short film focuses more on their role as a councilor than on action sequences.
