ONA
Description
Loi'e is a near-human cabaret performer and a spy for the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the era of Imperial rule. She is the proprietor and lead dancer of a cabaret on an occupied world, where she uses her position to gather intelligence on Imperial troopers who frequent the establishment. Her background is defined by trauma: twenty years before the events of the story, the Empire raided her village, killed many of her people, and forcibly took her infant son. This loss has driven her ever since and shapes her every action.

In terms of personality, Loi'e is determined, resourceful, and fiercely resilient. She carries a deep weariness from the double life she leads, expressing a desire to move on from her role as a spy. Despite this fatigue, she remains committed to the Rebellion and to the hope of personal freedom. She is also deeply emotional, though she often masks this behind a composed and graceful exterior, especially during her performances. Her motivation is twofold: to contribute to the fight against the Empire and, most personally, to find closure regarding the son she lost. That need for resolution becomes more urgent when she believes she has identified the Imperial officer who took her child.

Loi'e's role in the story is that of a covert operative who uses her cabaret as a front. During her dance routines, she secretly attaches tracking devices to Imperial armor and equipment, gathering intelligence for the Rebellion. She is the central figure in her network of rebel collaborators, which includes her contact Jon and the young waitress Hétis. Her role becomes more directly confrontational when she decides to face the Imperial officer she suspects of stealing her son, jeopardizing the mission in pursuit of personal truth.

Key relationships include her bond with Hétis, who looks up to Loi'e as both a leader and a mother figure. Hétis is eager to do more for the Rebellion and often tests Loi'e's patience, but the two share a deep trust and protect each other in combat. Loi'e also works closely with Jon, who coordinates the Rebellion's efforts and tries to keep her focused on the broader mission. The most pivotal relationship is with the young Imperial officer who turns out to be her son. He has been raised as an Imperial, his natural horns filed down and one eye lost to conform to human appearance. Their confrontation on the rooftop is the climax of the story, where Loi'e disarms him and embraces him, revealing the truth and offering him a way back to her.

Loi'e undergoes significant development over the course of the short. She begins as a tired spy going through the motions, but the appearance of the officer forces her to confront her past. She initially reacts with rage and a desire for vengeance, but when she realizes the officer is her son, she chooses compassion and hope over violence. She offers him a holoprojector with a recording of him as a baby, planting a seed of doubt about the Empire he serves. By the end, she has renewed her purpose, seeing her fight as a way to potentially free her son from the Empire's influence.

Notable abilities include her exceptional skill as a dancer, which she uses not only to entertain but to plant trackers and to move with agility and grace during combat. She is highly proficient in hand-to-hand combat, using her flowing dress to deflect blaster bolts and her cane as both a prop and a weapon. She also demonstrates quick thinking and improvisation, such as when she uses fabric to lasso herself and the officer onto the roof. Her emotional intelligence is a key ability, as she chooses understanding and connection over killing, which ultimately defines her character.
