Description
Ambassador Mephisto is an Alien Mefilas who serves as the representative of Planet Mefilas to the Star Cluster Council. His position as an ambassador, however, is one he may have been demoted to, as suggested by other characters who note he brought shame to his race at some point in the past. He is deeply knowledgeable about the Zetton Core, a significant power in the cosmos, and operates as the immediate superior to an agent named Adad.
In terms of personality, Mephisto is initially presented as a calm, rational, and politically astute figure. He operates from a place of calculated strategy rather than impulsive aggression, often expressing a preference for non-violent solutions to conflict. However, beneath this composed exterior lies a deep-seated paranoia and wounded pride. His status and reputation are of utmost importance to him, and he becomes easily agitated when his authority is threatened or when events do not unfold according to his plans. This insecurity makes him susceptible to manipulation and can drive him to rash, reckless actions that contradict his stated principles. When his position is genuinely jeopardized, his strategic mind gives way to desperate measures.
Mephisto's motivations are primarily self-serving, centered on preserving his political standing and power within the council. His role in the story is that of a complex antagonist, initially orchestrating schemes to discredit and undermine the Ultramen. At one point, he reveals that the various alien invasions of Earth decades prior were all orchestrated by the Star Cluster Council, framing him as part of a much larger, covert threat to the planet. His direct actions include sending henchmen to capture key members of the SSSP and authorizing imposters to wreak havoc using their likenesses, all to destroy the reputation of the Ultramen. When his plan is exposed and foiled, a twist of fate sees him stripped of his ambassadorial office and appointed to the very organization he sought to destroy, becoming the head of the SSSPs Information Security Office.
Mephisto has key relationships with several figures. He is the superior to Adad, whom he tasks with various missions. He also interacts with Edo, an agent whose mysterious authority and influence become a source of intense paranoia for Mephisto, as Edo appears to have the power to override his commands and outrank him. This tension is exploited by Valky, another council member whose provocative hints push Mephisto over the edge. Later, within the SSSP, he works alongside veterans like Dan Moroboshi and the fierce warrior Valky, though his relationship with them is defined by a clash of ideologies, with Mephisto advocating for restraint while the others push for direct, violent action.
Mephisto undergoes a notable development. He begins as a confident, if insecure, political mastermind. As his schemes unravel and his authority is repeatedly challenged, he descends into paranoid scheming, culminating in a desperate and ultimately failed plot to frame the Ultramen. His forced transfer to the SSSP marks a significant shift. Relieved of the pressures of his former office and with nothing left to lose, he regains his rational and calm demeanor, even developing a hobby of studying human history. Despite his fall from grace, he retains his pride. In a critical confrontation with the monster Gomora, after his colleagues are struck down, he initially hesitates, still wishing for a non-violent resolution. Being ignored, and then faced with the monster alone, he finally snaps out of his reluctance, determined to fight to uphold his honor. Though he is nearly defeated, the event shows a transition from self-serving political operator to a being capable of direct, prideful action, even as he laments his status as a disgraced son.
Notable abilities possessed by Mephisto are a mix of political influence and personal power. Politically, he holds significant sway over his underlings and possesses connections to world governments due to Earths alliance with the council. He also commands a massive, cloaked spaceship. On a personal level, as an Alien Mefilas, he can fly and uses a human form through mimicry rather than appearing in his true alien shape. For offense, he can conjure and generate light bullets from his palms, though he is noted to rarely use this ability due to his preference for non-violence. Despite this principle, he is not defenseless and can provide aerial support in combat.
