Description
Jack Hammer, whose real name is Jack Hanma, is a prominent figure in the world of underground pit fighting. He is the son of the infamous Yujiro Hanma and a Canadian soldier named Diane Neil, making him the half-brother of the series' main protagonist, Baki Hanma. Jack was born from a violent encounter, as his mother was a spy who was captured and assaulted by Yujiro during the Vietnam War. This traumatic origin is the foundation of his entire existence and defines his ultimate goal in life.

Driven by a burning desire for revenge against the father who wronged his mother, Jack has dedicated his life to becoming strong enough to defeat Yujiro. Unlike Baki, whose motivation is more complex and includes a twisted form of respect and a desire to surpass his father on his own terms, Jack's focus is singular and brutal. He has no intention of living a long life and has repeatedly stated that he is prepared to trade his very existence for a body powerful enough to achieve his goal. This obsessive mindset makes him incredibly determined and stubborn, a fighter who simply does not know how to quit.

To attain his strength, Jack has rejected conventional training and natural talent, opting instead for a self-destructive path of scientific enhancement and extreme body modification. As a young man, his over-training was so severe that his muscles began to deteriorate. He was saved from this downward spiral by a scientist known as Dr. John, who had witnessed Yujiro killing a polar bear with his bare hands a decade prior. The doctor provided Jack with a powerful, experimental steroid formula to help him build muscle mass. Jack, however, consumed far more than the recommended amount, transforming himself into a monstrously powerful fighter. He also underwent multiple painful limb-lengthening surgeries to increase his height and reach, ultimately standing at an imposing 243 centimeters tall. These methods have turned him into what some call the "Biting Cyborg," a reference to his most notorious fighting technique.

In terms of personality, Jack presents a duality. In the heat of battle or when pursuing his goal, he is a terrifying, animalistic force of nature who refuses to hold back and will use any means necessary to win. His signature move, which he later developed into a full-fledged martial art called Goudou, is biting. He uses his powerful jaws and teeth to tear into opponents, often in a way so swift and precise that it is initially mistaken for a weapon. He has even been known to crush solid wood with his teeth. This savage style, combined with his immense physical power from steroids, makes him a formidable and fearsome opponent.

Outside of combat, however, Jack can be surprisingly reserved, calm, and even possess a measure of good manners. He is not a bully who preys on the weak; his violence is almost exclusively directed at other fighters. He has shown a caring side towards his half-brother Baki. Despite their rivalry, he lifted the exhausted Baki up after their intense final match in the Maximum Tournament and held up his brother's arm to acknowledge his victory. He deeply cares for Baki, seeing in him a kindred spirit with the same goal, though their paths are very different.

Throughout the story, Jack's role evolves. He first appears as a mysterious and powerful entrant in the Maximum Tournament under the ring name Jack Hammer. He fights his way to the finals against Baki in a brutal and emotional match that pushes both brothers to their limits. After losing to Baki, he continues his quest for strength, facing off against deadly convicts like Sikorsky, the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, and the primitive powerhouse Pickle. A significant turning point occurs when he is defeated by Izou Motobe, a fighter who uses weapons and strategy. This loss forces Jack to re-evaluate his pure brute-force approach. He later emerges with a reformed style, having replaced all his teeth with unbreakable titanium implants and perfected Goudou, his biting martial art. This makes him stronger and more focused than ever before, setting him on a renewed path to challenge his father.

Jack's notable abilities stem from his unique physiology and training. His body, bolstered by constant steroid use, possesses incredible strength and durability, allowing him to perform feats like killing a polar bear with his bare hands. His endurance is legendary, as he can withstand immense punishment and continue fighting. His height and reach give him a significant advantage, and his biting technique is powerful enough to dismember and maim. While he is often seen as a brawler, he also has a sharp fighting instinct and a high understanding of combat, once cleverly countering the Aiki technique of the master Gouki Shibukawa. His entire existence is a testament to his will, a man who has sacrificed his long-term health for a singular, violent purpose.
