Posing as Dickins, Cynthia presented herself as an accomplished FBI investigator known for resolving high-profile cases. She wielded this false authority to manipulate LAPD personnel, including Chief Inspector Anderson, using blackmail material concerning his previous failed investigations into the Cassano family to ensure his cooperation. Her portrayal involved projecting smug confidence and superiority, breeding resentment among some colleagues.

The core purpose of this impersonation was to deceive Makoto Edamura into believing he was aiding law enforcement against Laurent Thierry and Abigail Jones. As Paula Dickins, Cynthia coerced Edamura into acting as an informant within Cassano's organization, promising exoneration and repatriation to Japan in exchange for his help in a planned FBI sting operation. This deception persisted until the culmination of the con against Cassano, when Cynthia revealed her true identity to Edamura.
