Description
Raku Narita is the second son of the Narita household and one of the four younger step-brothers who become part of Ito Narita's life after her mother remarries. He is a first-year high school student, a handsome young man who wears glasses and has brown hair cut to around ear length, along with blue eyes. His overall bearing is composed and noticeably mature for his age.
In temperament, Raku is calm, level-headed, and pleasant, which sets him apart from his older brother Gen, who is quiet, blunt, and slow to warm up to others. Raku is also highly observant. He enjoys watching the people around him and takes particular interest in following Gen's behavior, often finding his brother's reactions entertaining. Within the family, he acts as a kind of balancing force, keeping the household dynamic steady and helping smooth over the friction that arises as the family learns to live together.
His main motivation is the wellbeing of the newly formed family. Unlike Gen, Raku accepts Ito from the start. He welcomes her warmly, offers her practical advice about everyday life in the Narita home, and quietly supports her efforts to find her place as the eldest sister. Because he is approachable and cooperative, he is one of the first brothers Ito can rely on, and his steady presence gives her a foothold in an unfamiliar household.
In the story, Raku is a supporting figure among the four brothers. The narrative focuses most closely on Ito's difficult relationship with Gen, while Raku contributes to the household as an observer and mediator. He provides much of the family's calm and comic grounding as tensions between the other members play out around him. His childhood nickname was Yamaarashi, meaning mountain storm, a playful piece of family history.
His key relationships include Gen, whose guarded and gruff demeanor he finds interesting rather than off-putting; his younger brothers Shu and Rui, with whom he shares the everyday rhythm of the house; and Ito, whom he treats with consistent warmth. His bond with Ito is notably smooth compared with Gen's, since he never shows the same resistance or uncertainty toward her.
Raku's personal development is shown gradually. He is characterized as emotionally steady and unlikely to undergo sudden change; instead, his growth appears through the deepening of his bonds with his new sister and his brothers as the family becomes more comfortable with one another. His most notable qualities are social rather than physical: sharp observation, composure under everyday friction, and a talent for reading people, all of which make him an effective stabilizing presence in the Narita home.
