Description
Kent is a character who appears as a guest at the Pokémon Resort. He is the ex-boyfriend of Haru, the resort's main concierge. Before the events at the resort, Kent was Haru's boyfriend for six and a half years, but the relationship ended when he suddenly broke up with her via a text message. This breakup was a contributing factor that led Haru to leave her previous life in the city and start her new career at the Pokémon Resort.
Kent later arrives at the resort as a guest to celebrate his recent promotion to area manager at his workplace. His first full appearance occurs during a storm, where his Pokémon, an Arcanine, saves Haru from falling into a river. Upon seeing her, he is initially shocked to find that a former businesswoman like Haru has ended up working at a Pokémon resort, and he assumes she must be unhappy or trying to escape from something.
In terms of personality, Kent is soft-spoken and has a somewhat awkward demeanor. Despite their complicated past, he and Haru remain on amicable terms, and she treats him like any other guest at the resort. He represents the life and career path that Haru left behind in the city, in contrast to the more relaxed and fulfilling life she has found on the island. Over the course of his stay, he comes to understand that Haru has genuinely found where she belongs, and he ultimately expresses happiness for her new career and thanks her for his stay.
Kent is accompanied by his only known Pokémon, an Arcanine. This Arcanine is well-behaved and friendly, often licking those it deems friendly. During the stay, Arcanine gets stuck on a tube slide at the resort, but Haru successfully helps it get free by tickling it, making it laugh and loosen up so it could slide down. Kent's role in the story is primarily to act as a catalyst for Haru to reflect on how much she has changed and to affirm her new path. His visit does not rekindle a romantic relationship but instead provides closure and a respectful understanding between the two former partners.
