Description
Ecclesia is a central character from the anime Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Game The Chronicles, specifically appearing as the protagonist of the story arc titled The Fallen & The Virtuous. She is a young teenage girl of fifteen years, standing 160 centimeters tall, with waist-length blonde hair, silver eyes, and a distinctive golden X-shaped stigmata on her forehead. Her design and narrative are directly based on the trading card game monster Dogmatika Ecclesia, the Virtuous.
Ecclesia was raised within the isolated northern nation of Dogmatika, where she was trained from a young age and eventually chosen by the nation's high priest, Dogmatika Maximus, to become the 666th Virtuous Vestal. During her coronation ceremony, a sudden dimensional rift opens in the sky, from which a dragon falls. After witnessing the knight Fleurdelis defeat the creature, Ecclesia ventures to the crash site and discovers that the dragon has transformed into a wounded boy. When the Ashiyan army and the Tri-Brigade arrive to confront the boy, Ecclesia chooses to protect him, refusing orders to stand aside because she wishes to save him rather than fight. As punishment for defiling her stigmata by helping this outsider, she is stripped of her title and exiled from her homeland.
Ecclesia is defined by an honest and kind-hearted personality. She sincerely wishes for the happiness of others and dreams of a world where everyone, even those without a stigmata, can receive blessings. While she understands the laws of her nation regarding heretics, her true desire is to engage in conversation with such people to reach mutual understanding. Fleurdelis considers this idealism naive but also recognizes it as the source of Ecclesia's inner strength. Even after being exiled, Ecclesia does not harbor resentment toward Albaz, the boy she saved, and instead enjoys her time journeying with him, even giving him a name when he asks for one. She is notably forgiving, holding no grudges when the Springans initially tie her and Albaz up, and she quickly becomes friendly with them, especially Kitt. Her courage is evident when she rushes to calm Albaz after his power spirals out of control and he transforms into Albion the Branded Dragon, willing to risk her life to help her friends regardless of the danger.
Ecclesia shares a particularly close bond with Fleurdelis, the previous Virtuous Vestal, whom she regards as both a mentor and an older sister. Fleurdelis reciprocates this feeling, having known Ecclesia since she was a child serving as her attendant or squire. After her exile, Ecclesia finds herself in the care of the Tri-Brigade, awakening in their encampment where she initially falls into despair over being cast out from her home. Her journey continues alongside Albaz as they travel through harsh terrain, slowly forging a bond through their shared experiences. Eventually, the two are accepted as comrades by the Springans, where Ecclesia modifies her appearance further, donning a black leather jacket and golden goggles gifted by Kitt, and crafting a new rocket hammer from a monster's skull. Her development shows a transition from a devout member of a rigid religious order to an independent individual who finds belonging and friendship outside the only home she ever knew.
In terms of abilities, Ecclesia is trained in combat, wielding a war hammer as her primary weapon. This hammer appears to possess magical properties, as it is composed of floating pieces and can manifest a glowing Dogmatika crest before its head. Her stigmata, the mark on her forehead, is also a source of power that connects her to Dogmatika, though it can be used against her, as demonstrated when the Ashiyan leader inflicts pain through it. She is also noted to have a hearty appetite.
