Description
Hidemi Kanazono is a student at Camelot Academy, a prestigious institution for young golfers. His background is defined by his father's ambitions and a lack of natural talent for the sport. He was admitted to the academy through underhanded means, specifically by leveraging his father's connections as a sponsor, rather than earning his place through skill. This placed him under immense pressure, as his father had entrusted him with the dream of becoming a professional golfer.
As a result of this pressure and his own limited abilities, Hidemi developed a personality that is both desperate and deceitful. He is characterized by his willingness to resort to dishonest methods to survive at Camelot Academy. The school has a strict rule that students who fall below C class are expelled, and since he lacked the talent to advance legitimately, he began to cheat. His primary motivation is simply to maintain his standing at the academy and avoid the shame of expulsion, an outcome that would likely mean failing his father's dream for him. His situation is further complicated by the discovery of his irregular admission by two fellow students, Daichi Arai and Hershey Epor. They used this knowledge to bully him, forcing him to perform menial tasks and subjecting him to physical violence. This persecution only deepened his reliance on cheating as a survival mechanism.
Hidemi's role in the story is primarily that of an antagonist who is ultimately exposed. His actions escalate from manipulating the golf clubs of his rivals to using modified clubs for himself during official tournaments. His cheating is brought to light during the Camelot Cup tournament, specifically in a match against the protagonist, Gawain Nanaumi. At this time, his sabotage of the clubs belonging to Daichi Arai and Hershey Epor is also discovered. Cornered and facing the consequences, he publicly denounces the bullying he had endured from Arai and Epor. This leads to a confrontation where all three are severely reprimanded by Kai Todoin, a figure of authority at the academy. This incident serves as a turning point, forcing Hidemi, as well as his bullies, to show signs of remorse and self-reflection.
In terms of development, Hidemi's path diverges sharply from the world of competitive golf. Years after the events at Camelot Academy, he abandons the sport entirely. In a surprising turn, he reinvents himself and becomes a comedian. Regarding his notable abilities on the golf course, they were distinctly unremarkable. His average drive distance was a modest 180 yards, and he averaged 3.0 putts per round. His best overall score is unknown. These statistics confirm his lack of natural talent, which was the root cause of his desperate and dishonest behavior at Camelot Academy.
