ONA
Description
Muniel is a fallen angel and the main antagonist of the second half of Sand Land: The Series. He is physically small and appears youthful, with a blue bowl-cut hairstyle, clipped wings, and a magical staff. He typically carries a shoulder bag and an urn that possesses the ability to seal demons. Muniel originally worked as a low-ranking clerk in a heavenly archive, sorting and storing items. Bored with his mundane duties, he stole a staff that generates lightning and a demon-sealing urn from the warehouse, then descended to the mortal realm without permission. His stated goal is to purge the world of all demons, whom he considers filthy creatures.
Muniel’s personality is marked by a profound superiority complex and a delusional self-image. He genuinely believes he is a heroic savior and acts with obnoxious fervor, often challenging demons to duels while displaying arrogance. He is devious and manipulative, willing to use deception and brainwashing to achieve his ends. His motivations stem from boredom and a warped sense of righteousness, viewing his crusade as a noble mission despite his cruel methods.
In the story, Muniel first arrives in Sand Land and directly confronts Lucifer, the king of demons, intending to wipe out Demon Village. Lucifer easily defeats him by clipping his wings and flicking him away, sending Muniel crashing into Forest Land. There, he meets Supreme Commander Bred and joins forces with him. Muniel manipulates Bred into executing a coup d’état, deposing King Jam and imprisoning Queen Lilith in his urn. He then proclaims himself the Angel Hero of Forest Land, using propaganda to turn the populace against demons and solidify his control. His ultimate plan involves using Aquanium in collaboration with Bred to conquer Forest Land and eventually neighboring kingdoms.
Key relationships include his alliance with Bred, whom he exploits, and his enmity toward Beelzebub, the demon prince, and Ann, a mechanically-savvy girl who later reveals demonic heritage. Muniel also serves as the archenemy of Beelzebub and Ann throughout the Angelic Hero arc.
Muniel’s notable abilities are tied to his magical staff, which allows him to conjure lightning. The power of his staff depends on the environment: in arid regions like Sand Land it is weak, but in lush environments like Forest Land it becomes significantly stronger. He also uses a demon-sealing urn to capture and contain demons, such as Queen Lilith. Despite his angelic nature, Muniel relies on trickery and cowardly tactics in combat, as demonstrated by his tendency to use underhanded methods to corner opponents.
Throughout the series, Muniel undergoes little genuine development; he remains self-righteous and fanatical, doubling down on his delusions even as his schemes unravel. His clipped wings serve as a physical reminder of his humiliation by Lucifer, yet he does not learn from the defeat. Instead, he escalates his manipulation and seeks greater power, positioning himself as a false hero whose true nature is increasingly exposed.
