Description
Daitaku Helios is a character from the Umamusume franchise, where she is one of the main protagonists of the stage play Butai Uma Musume Pretty Derby: Sprinters' Story. Her birthday is April 10th, and she stands 156 centimeters tall. She has black or brown hair styled with distinctive blue highlights, often tied up on one side, and possesses golden-yellow eyes. Her appearance includes white coverings on her ears, and she frequently sports a visible snaggletooth when smiling. Her typical racing outfit consists of a blue shirt with black and yellow lines, white shorts, and blue boots, complemented by various accessories such as a star hair clip, a beaded bracelet, a chain earring, and a D-shaped necklace.
Personality-wise, Helios is the embodiment of a lively party girl. She is overwhelmingly energetic, cheerful, and sociable, always wearing a big smile and seeking to create a fun atmosphere. She speaks in a trendy, casual slang often associated with gyaru fashion, and her catchphrases are loud and infectious. Her philosophy centers on enjoying life and races with maximum spirit and energy. She dislikes quiet moments and finds formal politeness difficult and unpleasant. While her enthusiastic and direct approach helps her make many friends, her inability to modulate her high-energy personality for different people can sometimes make it hard for her to connect with more reserved individuals.
Helios is based on the real-life racehorse of the same name, a black stallion known for his frontrunning style and success in mile races, including two consecutive wins in the Mile Championship. In the story, she is a student at Tracen Academy and resides in the Ritto dormitory. Her primary motivation in the Sprinters Story arc is her intense admiration for the reserved and high-class Daiichi Ruby. After witnessing Ruby race, Helios becomes determined to become her friend and compete against her as an equal. She dreams of showing Ruby the pure joy of running freely, in contrast to the heavy expectations Ruby faces from her family.
Key relationships define much of her story. Her closest friend and partner is Mejiro Palmer, with whom she forms the Explosive Escape Duo; they share a chaotic and supportive bond, often leading races together from the front. Her roommate is the equally loud Tap Dance City. Her relationship with Daiichi Ruby is central to her character development; Helios’s overt and energetic attempts at friendship are often met with confusion or resistance from the serious Ruby, creating a one-sided but heartfelt dynamic. She is also friends with fellow gal-types like Tosen Jordan and Gold City, and she considers both K.S. Miracle and Yamanin Zephyr as friends and rivals.
In terms of development, Helios’s role often involves teaching others, particularly Ruby, the importance of having fun. Her journey is not about overcoming deep personal tragedy but about using her boundless positivity to break down the walls of those around her and bring excitement to everyone’s lives. Her character remains consistently upbeat, but her interactions deepen her resolve to connect with others on their own terms.
Her notable abilities extend beyond the racetrack. As a runner, she is a frontrunner specializing in sprint and mile distances, using a bold escape strategy to blast ahead from the start. Off the track, she is a skilled DJ and a popular online content creator, running a channel called Tenage Helios Channel where she posts vlogs and music remixes. Her popularity as a DJ has even led to invitations to perform at concerts. She also claims to be exceptionally good at the card game Old Maid.
