Description
Reiner Braun was born illegitimate in Liberio's internment zone to Eldian mother Karina Braun and a Marleyan father. Subjected to Marley's systemic discrimination against Eldians, he aspired to Warrior status to gain honorary Marleyan citizenship and reunite his family. Initially a weak candidate, he inherited the Armored Titan at age ten after Marcel Galliard manipulated his selection; Marcel sought to shield his brother Porco from the Titan's thirteen-year curse.

In 845, Reiner infiltrated Paradis Island alongside Bertolt Hoover, Annie Leonhart, and Marcel on a mission to reclaim the Founding Titan. Marcel died saving Reiner from a Titan attack, leaving Reiner traumatized and guilt-ridden. He subsequently adopted facets of Marcel's personality, becoming more assertive yet protective of his fellow Warriors. Confronting his father before departure resulted in rejection, as his father denounced them as "Eldian devils" and fled to protect his social standing.

Enrolling in the 104th Training Corps on Paradis, Reiner graduated second in his class and joined the Survey Corps. He cultivated a "big brother" persona—reliable, protective, emphasizing duty, honesty, and self-sacrifice. This facade masked profound psychological turmoil from his double life. Guilt over actions like murdering comrade Marco, whom he stripped of vertical maneuvering gear to be eaten by a Titan, worsened his instability. He developed dissociative identity disorder, vacillating between his Warrior identity and a delusion of being a loyal Paradis soldier.

His mental fractures peaked during the Shiganshina District clash when his cover was blown. Bertolt's insistence he prioritize being a "Warrior" over a "soldier" temporarily stabilized him. Returning to Marley with the mission failed—Annie captured, Bertolt and Marcel dead—his mental state deteriorated further. He endured chronic nightmares, suicidal ideation, and deep self-loathing, attempting to end his life with a rifle. His will to live persisted solely from a sense of duty toward younger Warrior cadets, determined to protect them from his fate.

Physically, Reiner is tall (185 cm) and muscular, with blond hair and hazel eyes. By 854, he appeared gaunter, sporting a goatee and sharper cheekbones. His Armored Titan form stands 15 meters tall, encased in hardened skin plates nearly impervious to conventional weapons. Vulnerable points include exposed muscle tissue behind the knees, elbows, and feet, and beneath the jaw. Despite its armor, the Titan displays agility, capable of climbing structures using hardened claws.

Strategically, Reiner exhibits strong leadership and analytical skills. He formulated infiltration plans for Paradis and demonstrated long-term tactical foresight, earning acknowledgment from adversaries like Eren Yeager for anticipating consequences. During the Marley Mid-East War, he maintained a pragmatic yet weary demeanor, openly humanizing his Paradis comrades despite Marley's propaganda. His dedication extended to enduring torture without cooperation while imprisoned by the Survey Corps.
