Marios Gavrilis

Description
Marios Gavrilis is a German actor and voice actor known for his extensive work in dubbing, particularly for providing the German voices for numerous characters in anime, television series, and video games. Born on 19 December 1985 in Braunschweig, Germany, he holds both German and Greek citizenship. Gavrilis studied acting at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main from 2006 to 2010 and was a member of the ensemble at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. His stage work has also taken him to the Schauspiel Frankfurt, the Staatstheater Mainz, and the Theaterhaus Jena.

Gavrilis has been active as a voice actor since approximately 2009, building a career with over 200 dubbing roles. His work is characterized by a commitment to authentic performance, aiming to create believable characters rather than delivering what he describes as sounding like "voice acting". He is based between Berlin and Los Angeles.

Gavrilis is the regular German dubbing voice for a wide range of prominent characters in anime. One of his most notable roles is Reiner Braun in the long-running series Attack on Titan, a part he has voiced across various seasons and compilation films, including Attack on Titan The Final Season, Attack on Titan The Final Season Part 2, Attack on Titan: The Roar of Awakening, and Attack on Titan Part 1 – Guren no Yumiya. Another significant anime role is Rintarou Okabe in Steins;Gate and Steins;Gate 0. His other anime credits include Kumagami in Charlotte, Jaeha in Yona of the Dawn, Kyogai in Demon Slayer, Gajeel Redfox in Fairy Tail, Kyouhei Kadota in Durarara!!, and Shun Morisaki in The Irregular at Magic High School. He has also taken on iconic antagonist roles such as Dio Brando in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Charlotte Katakuri in One Piece. In the film The Seven Deadly Sins the Movie: Prisoners of the Sky, he voiced the character Bellion. His anime work also extends to the Netflix series Super Crooks, where he played TK McCabe, and Blood of Zeus, as Seraphim.

Beyond anime, Gavrilis is highly sought-after for video game dubbing, frequently providing the German voice for leading characters. These roles include Alexios in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Sam Porter Bridges in Death Stranding, Dani Rojas in Far Cry 6, Bruce Wayne / Batman in Gotham Knights, Venom in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and Emmerich Voss in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. He also dubbed Donkey Kong in the German version of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. In live-action dubbing, he is known as the German voice of Denver (Jaime Lorente) in Money Heist, Michael Gray in Peaky Blinders, and Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) in Preacher, among many others.

Gavrilis's approach to voice acting emphasizes the physical and emotional demands of the craft, particularly in the anime sector where characters can be larger-than-life and require intense energy. He views his work as a form of acting that requires the same authenticity as on-screen performance, aiming to create a believable illusion for the viewer. In preparing for roles, such as the villain Emmerich Voss in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, he engages in deep psychological analysis to understand the character's motivations, striving to make even reprehensible figures feel human and complex.

His achievements in voice acting have been recognized with industry awards. In 2019, he received the SOVAS Voice Arts Award for Best Voice Performance and Best Work. Additional sources indicate he has won multiple SOVAS awards across different years for his dubbing work. He was also awarded the Award of Excellence in 2019 at the One-Reeler Short Film Competition in Los Angeles for the short film Shots Fired, which he starred in and produced.
