TV-Series
Description
Nicolo is a former Marleyan naval soldier captured on Paradis Island after arriving with Marley's first survey fleet following the failed Paradis Island Operation. The Scout Regiment took him prisoner, initially holding him at gunpoint under Levi Ackermann and Hange Zoë. Despite the threat, he urged his naval captain to open fire on the islanders. After capture, he transitioned into working as a chef for the Eldian military.
Physically, Nicolo has a tall, slim build, blond hair styled in an undercut, a petite pointed nose, and brown eyes. He initially wore the standard Marleyan military uniform and later adopted formal attire like a black suit and tie during a cemetery visit.
His early personality reflected strong Marleyan prejudices, viewing Eldians as "devils" and expressing disgust at his captivity. Exposure to the Scout Regiment fostered grudging respect and tentative friendships, challenging his beliefs. He maintained a strong sense of duty and meticulousness, taking pride in his culinary work and using his skills to bring others happiness.
A pivotal shift occurred through his relationship with Eldian soldier Sasha Braus. Her passionate appreciation for his cooking, especially the seafood dishes he prepared for port workers, deeply affected him. Her genuine enjoyment broke through his animosity, leading to mutual attraction and personal transformation. He credited her with saving him from the cycle of hatred between Marley and Eldia, instilling the belief that cooking could foster joy and connection.
Sasha's death during the battle of Liberio devastated Nicolo. Harassment by a Military Police officer during a visit to her grave highlighted ongoing tensions, though Jean Kirschtein and Conny Springer intervened. His grief erupted violently upon discovering Gabi Braun, Sasha's killer, dining with the Braus family at his restaurant. In a rage, he attacked Gabi with a wine bottle, dragged her and Falco Grice upstairs, and offered Sasha's father, Artur Braus, a knife to execute Gabi, vowing to do it himself if refused. When Scouts intervened, he held Falco at knifepoint, delivering an impassioned speech about Sasha's significance. Artur Braus's refusal to seek vengeance and message of forgiveness caused Nicolo profound regret, inspiring him toward redemption.
Subsequently, Nicolo revealed critical intelligence to the Scouts: wine reserved for military elites might be laced with Zeke Jaeger's spinal fluid, a Titanization weapon. He based this on suspiciously large alcohol shipments and Yelena's specific serving orders. He framed this disclosure as atonement for his actions against Gabi, downplaying protective intent. Later, he and others were captured by Jaegerists due to a tip from fellow Marleyan prisoner Greiz. While imprisoned, Greiz provoked Nicolo by insulting Sasha, leading to a near-confrontation halted when Yelena killed Greiz.
During the battle for Shiganshina, Nicolo vouched for Onyankopon's trustworthiness regarding Yelena's deception, convincing imprisoned soldiers to join the fight. Tasked with protecting the Braus family and armed with a rifle, he guided them to relative safety, later saving Artur Braus from a Titan. After Gabi saved Kaya Braus from another Titan, Nicolo claimed credit for killing it to shield Gabi's identity. Witnessing Kaya and Gabi grapple with guilt, he offered solace by stating everyone harbors an inner "devil," reflecting his evolved worldview on universal human capacity for good and evil.
Post-conflict, he aided Armin Arlert by preparing horses for a mission to rescue Falco and expressed intentions to stay with the Braus family. Years after Eren Jaeger's death, he was seen accompanying the Braus family, displaying clear disapproval toward Jaegerist commemorations.
