Description
In Doomed Megalopolis 2: The Last War, the character known as Narration is a disembodied voice that functions as an expository presence. Its background is not explored as a person; instead, it serves as an omniscient narrator that opens the story by recounting the legend of Taira no Masakado, a tenth-century warlord who rebelled against the emperor and was executed. The Narration explains how Masakado’s lingering hatred transformed his spirit into a dangerous onryo that became tied to the city of Tokyo, and how over centuries his anger was placated through worship, turning him into a guardian deity. This historical and supernatural context is essential for understanding the central conflict of the film, in which the demonic sorcerer Yasunori Katou seeks to awaken Masakado’s wrath to destroy the imperial capital. The Narration has no distinct personality, motivations, or relationships; it is purely a storytelling device that provides background information at the beginning of the film and does not reappear or develop further. Its only notable ability is the delivery of this expository monologue, setting the stage for the events that follow.
