Description
Nobuhiko Akizuki is the childhood friend of Kotaro Minami, and the two were raised like brothers after Nobuhiko lost his parents. At the age of eleven in 1963, both boys were subjected to an experimental surgery by their fathers, who implanted Kingstones into their bodies, transforming them into kaijin. Nobuhiko became a Silver Locust Kaijin, a being with insectoid traits and superhuman capabilities. He and Kotaro were intended to be candidates to succeed the dying Creation King, the original kaijin ruler. In 1972, as young adults, Nobuhiko and Kotaro joined the Gorgom movement, a political activist group advocating for kaijin rights. Nobuhiko was motivated less by ideology and more by his admiration for a female activist named Yuriko Shinjo, as well as the presence of his friend Oliver Johnson and the acquaintance Bilgenia. When the Gorgom leadership made a deal with the prime minister, Nobuhiko followed Bilgenia in splitting from the main organization and took the Creation King into hiding. However, internal conflicts led to Yuriko’s death and Kotaro’s defeat at the hands of the Creation King. Nobuhiko was captured by the Three Priests and imprisoned in the underground cells of what would become the Gorgom Party headquarters.

For decades, Nobuhiko remained imprisoned, kept young by being fed Heaven, an extract derived from the Creation King. After finally breaking free, he began to act on his long‑held goal: to create a world where kaijin could live openly as kaijin, free from human oppression. He sought out Kotaro, now living as a reclusive mercenary called Black Sun, to join him in destroying the Creation King and the Gorgom establishment, but Kotaro refused. Undeterred, Nobuhiko started a resistance movement, training young kaijin. When a raid to rescue the activist Aoi Izumi ended in disaster and the death of their comrade Shunsuke Komatsu at the hands of human supremacists, Nobuhiko’s grief and rage triggered a second transformation. He assumed the form of Kamen Rider Shadowmoon, a more powerful armored state with a white grasshopper motif. In this form, he killed the human supremacist leader and declared his intention to place kaijin above humans.

Nobuhiko’s personality is driven by a deep‑seated anger and disillusionment. As a child, he was curious and idealistic, but decades of imprisonment and the betrayal of human society hardened him. He becomes ruthless and willing to sacrifice anyone, including his former friend Kotaro, to achieve his vision. His relationship with Kotaro is the central axis of the story; they begin as close friends and brothers, grow apart after Kotaro’s refusal to embrace kaijin supremacy, and become sworn enemies. Nobuhiko also has a complex connection with Bilgenia, a fellow Gorgom member who once fought alongside him but whose offer of alliance he later rejects. With Aoi Izumi, he initially views her as a naive human, but her resilience and later actions challenge his convictions.

Over the course of the narrative, Nobuhiko develops from a principled activist into a violent revolutionary and finally into an aspiring tyrant. After defeating Kotaro in battle and taking his Kingstone, Nobuhiko infiltrates the Gorgom Party headquarters, eliminates the Three Priests, and declares himself the new Creation King. However, Kotaro is revived through the efforts of allies and Aoi’s faith, leading to a final confrontation.

As Shadowmoon, Nobuhiko possesses superhuman strength, speed, and durability equal to or greater than Black Sun. He can generate telekinetic force from his right hand to immobilize or repel opponents. His shoulder armor contains blade‑like weapons that can be drawn and used as swords; these are sharp enough to cut Black Sun’s hide, but each can be used only once and does not regenerate. His transformation is triggered by intense emotion, and he does not rely on a vehicle in his Shadowmoon state. Unlike Kotaro, who aged normally because he refused to consume Heaven, Nobuhiko’s youthful appearance is preserved by the extract, highlighting his willingness to use the Creation King’s resources for his own ends.

Nobuhiko Akizuki, also known as Shadowmoon, serves as both a double protagonist and the primary antagonist of the story. His arc mirrors Kotaro’s, but where Kotaro ultimately chooses compassion and coexistence, Nobuhiko chooses domination and a purge of humanity. His story is one of tragic radicalization, where noble intentions become corrupted by rage and the desire for absolute control.
