Description
Baraom is a central antagonist in Kamen Rider BLACK SUN, depicted as a Kaijin, or monster person, with the characteristics of a saber-toothed tiger. He holds the position of one of the Three Priests, the highest-ranking leaders of the Gorgom Party, a political organization that advocates for the rights of Kaijin in Japanese society.
The character has a long history with the Kaijin liberation movement, dating back to the 1970s. At that time, he was a senior member of a minority group called Gorgom, serving as its primary enforcer due to his immense physical strength. In this era, he was directly involved in a pivotal event where the group negotiated with the Prime Minister. When fellow member Nobuhiko Akizuki plotted to kill the Creation King, a central figure for the Kaijin, it was Baraom who confronted, defeated, and captured him. This act cemented his role as the group's muscle and demonstrated his willingness to use force to maintain the established order.
By the year 2022, Baraom has risen to become one of the three High Priests of the now-formalized Gorgom Party. In this role, he is deeply involved in the party's efforts to locate the complete Kingstone, a relic necessary to create a new Creation King. His personality is defined by a pragmatic and self-interested worldview. Unlike some of his colleagues who might be driven by ideology, Baraom appears motivated by a realistic, and at times cynical, assessment of power. He is confident, especially in his own physical prowess, and has a sadistic streak, often taunting and mocking his long-imprisoned rival, Nobuhiko. He believes firmly in the practicalities of coexistence with humans, even if from a subordinate position, as he sees open conflict as a path that would lead to the extinction of weaker Kaijin.
Baraom's key relationships are primarily with his fellow priests, Darom and Bishum, with whom he has worked for decades. He also has a tense and antagonistic relationship with Nobuhiko, whom he once defeated and who later escapes imprisonment to become a major threat. His relationship with the more aggressive Bilgenia is also marked by conflict, as Baraom often finds himself restraining Bilgenia's violent impulses, which he views as counterproductive.
Throughout the story, Baraom's role evolves from a powerful enforcer to a resistant prisoner. After Nobuhiko breaks free, seizes control of the Gorgom Party, and declares his intention to create a world where Kaijin are superior to humans, Baraom refuses to pledge allegiance. This decision is a crucial moment of development, revealing that despite his self-interest, he has principles he will not abandon, including a rejection of Kaijin supremacism. For his defiance, he is branded a traitor and imprisoned by Nobuhiko. He is later given a final chance to cooperate but remains adamant in his refusal. As punishment for his loyalty to his own convictions, Nobuhiko orders all the Kaijin present to execute him, and Baraom is stabbed to death.
In terms of abilities, as a Saber-toothed Tiger Kaijin, Baraom possesses superhuman strength, speed, and agility, capable of moving on all fours with great swiftness. His primary physical weapons are the sharp claws on his hands and the two elongated fangs protruding from his upper jaw, which he can use for slashing and stabbing attacks. His fighting style is direct and brutal, relying on overwhelming force, which he demonstrated decades prior when he successfully subdued Nobuhiko in combat.
