Description
Pang Wei, known as Pan Uey in Japanese, is a Chinese pianist from wealth studying in Poland. A top contender at the International Chopin Piano Competition due to exceptional technique, his style closely mirrors Sosuke Ajino's before Ajino's accident.

Childhood bullying in China led Pang Wei to withdraw socially, viewing music as his sole refuge. He resolved to forge a unique style and represent China internationally. His competitive drive manifests as arrogance; he dismisses rivals as inferior, spurns friendship, and reacts angrily to accusations of copying Ajino.

His past holds deeper trauma. Chosen by a guardian prioritizing fame over welfare, he endured violent abuse during training. He nearly quit piano until encountering Ajino's performances, inspiring him to emulate Ajino – driven by a win-at-all-costs mentality, not artistic passion. This fueled performances marked by anger and sadness that disturbed listeners.

A pivotal shift occurs during the Chopin Competition. After a kidnapping forces introspection and a consequential talk with Ajino, Pang Wei confronts his history. Ajino acknowledges their stylistic similarity but urges Pang Wei to evolve beyond imitation. This catalyzes his transformation. In his final performance, Pang Wei plays with uncharacteristic joy and catharsis, openly weeping as he sheds his ingrained anger, signifying a move from pure competition towards authentic artistic expression.
