Description
Hiyori Tomoe is a prominent idol from the Ensemble Stars!! series, specifically featured in Tsuioku Selection Element. He is a member of the units Eden and Eve, where he serves as the leader of the latter. Hailing from the immensely wealthy and influential Tomoe Foundation, Hiyori was born into nobility and carries himself with the inherent pride of his upbringing. As the second son, his older brother is the heir to the family's foundation, which allows Hiyori a degree of freedom from the primary responsibilities of the family business, a role he embraces with a laid-back attitude.

In terms of background, Hiyori is a third-year student at Reimei Academy, where his roommate is Rinne Amagi. Prior to his time at Reimei, he was a student at Yumenosaki Academy and a member of the original unit fine, alongside Nagisa Ran, Tsumugi Aoba, and Eichi Tenshouin. He considers his former unit members dear friends, even though he tends to avoid discussing that period of his past.

Hiyori’s personality is vibrant, loud, and dramatic. He is almost always bright and cheerful, a disposition so intense that others find it blinding. He relishes being the center of attention and becomes sulky if he feels ignored. On the surface, he frequently reminds others of his superior social status and acts on his own unpredictable whims, often leading to accusations of being selfish or inconsiderate. He can be late for appointments or protest assignments he dislikes, marching entirely to the beat of his own drum.

Despite this flippant exterior, Hiyori is deeply nurturing and caring. He has a habit of taking in those he feels are in need, a trait that extends from people to animals. He and his unitmate Jun Sazanami rescued a stray dog they found covered in blood, naming her Bloody Mary and keeping her in their school dormitory against the rules. Hiyori is a natural mentor; he is patient, intelligent, and eloquent, and he eagerly shares his knowledge with others. He has a deep-seated desire to be loved by everyone, which drives his idol activities. He dreads being disliked and views his purpose as spreading smiles and love to the world. He loves helping his friends, willingly changing his schedule to provide assistance if they truly need it.

Hiyori’s motivations are complex. While he acts as the carefree and foolish second son, this is partly a deliberate act to support his older brother and avoid causing the family trouble. From childhood, he played the role of the unimportant, non-threatening child in high society, a performance he maintained for so long that he sometimes struggles to know his real self. He has described his heart as feeling empty, having metaphorically cut away parts of himself to fuel the sparkling persona he presents to the world. Becoming an idol and being loved by fans provides him with a sense of existence and validation, and he hopes his success will bolster his family's reputation.

In the story, his primary role is as a key member of Eden, a unit formed by the producer Ibara Saegusa. Within Eden, he performs alongside Jun Sazanami as the duo Eve, with Nagisa Ran and Ibara forming the counterpart duo Adam. Hiyori is close with Jun, treating him almost like a younger brother or protégé, and shares a particularly deep and long-standing bond with Nagisa, whom his family took in during their childhood and who inspired Hiyori to enter show business. His relationship with Ibara is more complex, often clashing with the producer’s strict and calculated methods, though Hiyori’s antics, such as spamming the group chat with photos of his dog, are a source of frustration for Ibara.

Hiyori undergoes notable personal development. Although he originally began to hate idol work during his time at Yumenosaki, he persevered and has grown to love his profession. He has had to confront the emptiness he felt from performing a role his whole life and is learning to reconcile his genuine, caring nature with his lofty, self-centered presentation. He seeks to be a dazzling idol not just for his own ego, but to create a shared feeling of happiness and euphoria.

Hiyori possesses several notable abilities. He has a sweet, clear, and luxurious singing voice that makes his performances elegant and beautiful. He is a talented dancer, praised for his skills among fans. He also has a remarkable memory and speaks conversational English. He is very conscious of trends and interacts with fans by reading their letters and even trying their recommendations, like eating ice cream on a cold day. He has an aversion to gross things like insects and fish and dislikes working out, maintaining that his idol practice keeps him in sufficient shape, though his figure is noted to be slightly soft around the stomach. He is known for his characteristic phrase, "Good Hiyori day," a play on words using his name, which means weather.
