Description
Igaram, also known by his Baroque Works code name Mr. 8, is the captain of the royal guard of the desert kingdom of Alabasta. He is a tall man with a small red nose and distinct blonde hair styled in large curls that resemble a powdered wig, a look that naturally incorporates the number 8 into its shape. Before the series' time skip, he typically dressed as a gentleman, reflecting his undercover persona. After the time skip, he appears with a small mustache.

Igaram's most defining characteristic is his absolute and unwavering loyalty to Princess Nefertari Vivi, whom he has served since her childhood. He is deeply protective of her, to the point of being overbearing, and is prepared to sacrifice his own life to ensure her safety. This devotion often manifests as a second fatherly concern for the princess. He also has a unique, somewhat operatic speaking habit, clearing his voice with a sound like "Ma~ma~ma~" whenever it becomes tired.

His primary motivation stems from this loyalty and his duty to his homeland. When a mysterious criminal organization called Baroque Works began orchestrating a civil war in Alabasta, Igaram resolved to stop them. To uncover the organization's leader and true objectives, he accompanied Princess Vivi on a dangerous undercover mission, infiltrating Baroque Works as a frontier agent. While undercover, he adopted the codename Mr. 8 and was partnered with the agent known as Miss Monday, while Vivi took the name Miss Wednesday. To maintain his cover, he operated out of the town of Whiskey Peak, posing as its welcoming mayor, Igarappoi, where he and other agents would lure pirates into a false sense of security before ambushing them for their bounties.

In the story, Igaram first appears as a seemingly friendly host to the Straw Hat Pirates in Whiskey Peak. When his true identity as a Baroque Works agent is exposed by Roronoa Zoro, a fight ensues, during which Igaram demonstrates his combat abilities. After being defeated, he reveals his and Vivi's true mission and begs Zoro and the crew to protect the princess, promising a reward from Alabasta. To create a diversion for the Straw Hats as they escort Vivi home, Igaram disguises himself as the princess and sets sail on a separate ship. His vessel is promptly destroyed by a massive explosion caused by the organization's vice president, Miss All-Sunday (Nico Robin), seemingly killing him. However, he later reappears in Alabasta, having survived the attack. He returns bearing a crucial witness who can prove that the king was framed by Baroque Works, helping to halt the civil war and clear the royal family's name. In the aftermath, he again uses a disguise to impersonate Vivi, allowing her to sneak away and bid a private farewell to the Straw Hats.

Key relationships define his role. His bond with Princess Vivi is the most significant, as he is her devoted guardian and trusted advisor. He also has a close, if occasionally exasperated, relationship with King Nefertari Cobra, whom he has served for many years. Despite his initial hostility toward the Straw Hats, he becomes deeply grateful for their aid in saving Vivi and his kingdom. Igaram is married to Terracotta, the royal chef, and the two share a striking resemblance, including matching curly hairstyles. Throughout his appearances, Igaram shows little personal development, as his core traits of loyalty and bravery are consistent from his introduction onward, though his relationship with the Straw Hats evolves from enemy to ally.

Igaram's notable abilities are as unconventional as his appearance. As head of the royal guard, he commands all of Alabasta's military forces. He is a capable fighter and skilled in the art of disguise. His combat style revolves entirely around hidden firearms. His primary weapon is a saxophone that, when played, functions as a powerful shotgun that fires a blast of bullets, a technique he calls Igarappa. His other signature attack, Igarappappa, reveals small gun barrels hidden within the curls of his hair, which he fires by pulling on his necktie. These quirky but effective methods lead Roronoa Zoro to comment that Igaram fights like an action figure.
